Junior SW Engineer

The Agency is interested in IT Modernization efforts and Re-skilling and Workforce Transformation. Re-skill and up-skill employees impacted by IT modernization efforts, evolve workforce to more 21st Century skill sets and work practices, and enable the workforce to drive successful IT Modernization efforts going forward utilizing in-house talent.

 

The Junior Engineer will be responsible for conducting research and planning activities, evaluating products and technical alternatives, as well as developing, deploying, and documenting technical solutions. Personnel in this category are responsible for assisting more senior positions and/or performing functional duties under the oversight of more senior positions. Designs, develops, documents, tests and debugs application software. Conducts analysis and collaborates with subject matter experts in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for information storage, processing, presentation, manipulation, display, or reporting. End product may be special use, customized, or commercial software. Determines computer user needs; analyzes system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls; prepares operating instructions; designs and develops autonomous services, desktop applications, web applications, scripts, and utility programs. Ensures software standards are met.  Responsible for performing complex program assignments in analyzing, defining, coding in the design, and implementing cost effective information technology solutions.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepares and conducts system and programming tests requiring interfacing of hardware and software.

  • Conducts system programming activities such as program language codes, processing routines and report generators.

  • Develops flow charts and diagrams outlining process and steps in operation; prepares documentation of program development, conducts program test and makes modification to code as needed.

  • May analyze system capabilities to resolve input/output problems.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and three (3) years of relevant experience in their field.

 

Required Skills:

  • Two (2) years of systems program experience. Includes working knowledge of this technical field and the ability to complete moderately complex assignments.

  • Deep understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)

  • Experienced implementing and integrating Agile and DevOps methodology in an enterprise IT environment.

 

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with code and software development automation tools

  • Experience with Git, Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes, Puppet, Ansible, Gradle, and/or other DevOps / CI/CD tools and integrations

 

Clearance Requirement:

  • Must be a US citizen and have the ability to obtain a Public Trust security clearance.
