Junior Software Engineer for Augmented Reality Products

Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) is seeking qualified Junior software engineers to join our fast-growing Products team developing innovative, cutting-edge augmented reality wearable products. ARA’s ARC4® technology sets the standard for military augmented reality and has been featured in The Atlantic, The Daily Beast, Defense Systems, and Ars Technica. We are pursuing opportunities for new ARC4 products in a variety of defense and commercial market segments

You will join a multi-disciplinary collaborative team of product development and manufacturing engineers, R&D scientists, and business development specialists. This position is located in the Products Directorate at ARA’s Southeast Division in Raleigh, NC.

Junior Software Engineer for Augmented Reality Products Responsibilities:

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Junior software development and hardware/software integration on resource-constrained computing platforms.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Supporting system and software architecture design
  • Developing cross-platform applications in C++ and Java
  • Working with protocols such as TCP/IP, USB, Bluetooth, and UART
  • Developing sensor-focused applications using the Android NDK
  • Developing full-stack web applications using Node.js and JavaScript
  • Coordinating with other engineers in an Agile environment to manage feature rollout
  • Participating in code reviews and regression testing to ensure high-quality product performance

Junior Software Engineer for Augmented Reality Products Required Qualifications:

  • US Citizenship (Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information)
  • BS in Computer Engineering or equivalent
  • 2-4 years of experience in software development and software/hardware integration for products heading to market

Junior Software Engineer for Augmented Reality Products Additional Desirable Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Engineering or related field
  • Experience hardening software applications in preparation for market release
  • Military product qualification and consumer product safety certification experience
