IT Systems Technician

We are currently seeking an IT Systems Technician to join our Information Technology team in Vicksburg, MS. The position will primarily support a $8M/yr business unit with broad research and engineering application as well as software development. The primary work location is located at 119 Monument Place, Vicksburg, MS. THE ABILITY TO OBTAIN A SECRET SECURITY CLEARANCE IS REQUIRED AND A CURRENT CLEARANCE IS HIGHLY DESIRABLE.

IT Systems Technician Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for the moderately complex tasks required in the testing and analysis of all elements of the network facilities (power, communication wiring, software, network cabling, TCP/IP, Ethernet switches, Windows computer clients and servers).

Essential Functions:

  • Provide desktop support including PC hardware and software troubleshooting; installation, moves/adds/changes, user education and application assistance to employees at multiple locations including Vicksburg, MS; Huntsville, AL; Dallas and San Antonio, TX.  The majority of the work is in Vicksburg.  Some limited travel to the other locations may be required occasionally.
  • Manage Local Area Network (LAN)
  • Manage local server assets
  • Monitor systems and advise corporate network staff of failures or degradations as well as assist in arranging for corrective action plans
  • Document purchases according to company policy and procedures
  • Maintain software licensing
  • Document daily operations and software
  • Respond and follow-up on internal customer support problems
  • Provide telephone support to business travelers and branch offices as needed
  • Provide occasional after hours on-call support as needed
  • Troubleshoot Common Access issues
  • Other special projects and tasks as assigned

Position Requirements:

  • Requires High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 2-5 years of related experience
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Customer service oriented
  • Experience as a computer technician, IT Systems, or similar background
  • Experience troubleshooting Level I technical issues
  • Technical troubleshooting and analytical skills
  • IT Systems / LAN administration experience
  • Ability to learn new systems quickly
  • Strong background with Windows desktops and a Windows network environment
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Word, etc.
  • Active Directory User and Computer administration

Position Preferences:

  • Experience with Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2012, Commvault backup software, Cisco VoIP phone administration
  • MCSE,  A+, Net+, Security+ certifications
  • ESET AntiVirus and WSUS
  • Bachelor’s degree in MIS, CS, or other IT-related field
  • DoD experience
  • NISPOM and DoD 5200 understanding
  • NIST 800-171 understanding
  • RSA experience
  • Office 365 experience
Experience Required
  • 2 - 5 years: Prefer candidate to have Bachelor’s degree in MIS, CS, or other IT-related field.
