Industrial Specialist I

Role Identified:
This position requires a person who possess prior computer experience (specifically Access Commander and Excel) and a knowledge of Industrial Security requirements found in the National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual (NISPOM). The person must have proven organizational skills; good telephone etiquette, good reading, writing and grammar skills, an ability to multi-task and to set priorities based on workload. This position post requires shift work and occasional overtime.

Major Responsibility/Day-to-Day Activities:
  • Responsible for accurate data entry of information from handwritten or typed Classified Material Transaction Record into a computer based format. Each record is checked for completeness of information and spelling prior to input.
  • Responsible for helping to educate cleared staff on their responsibilities for the marking, storage, transfer, transmittal, and destruction of accountable classified material.
  • Responsible for reviewing classified documents for proper markings.
  • Responsible for keeping accurate data entry of all accountable (Express Mail, Registered Mail and Certified Mail) U.S. Postal mail, and Federal Express (FedEx) into a computer based system.
  • Responsible for conducting classified container inventories.
  • Responsible for generating container and/or custodian inventories from Access Commander upon request.
  • Responsible for lifting boxes or packages up to 70 lbs.
  • Responsible for wrapping accountable classified material according to NISPOM requirements.
  • Responsible for coordinating and scheduling Burn Barrel pick-ups.
  • Responsible for coordinating and scheduling classified document pick-up with mail carriers personnel and custodians.
  • This position also requires a high volume of filing (electronic and physical form).
  • Files must be kept orderly and neat for Defense Counterintelligence Security Agency (DCSA) Assessments.
  • Responsible for collecting and organizing stats for the Classified Sensitive Material Management (CSMM) section. The stats must be turned in monthly to the Lead, of CSMM.
  • Must work well in a teaming environment.
  • May be called to present Security Education to custodians.
This position requires interaction with both internal and external customers on a regular basis. It also requires constant interface on phone or at the service window. Contact with high levels of the organizations is highly possible.

  • Employee should have knowledge of computers with a Windows environment. (Microsoft Office, Excel and Access Commander)
  • Employee should have knowledge of what categories of classified caveats and classification levels.
  • Employee should have knowledge of U.S. Government requirements for marking classified information.
  • Employee should have knowledge of U.S. Government requirements for access to classified information.
  • Employee should have knowledge of U.S. Government requirements to properly safeguard classified material.
  • U.S. Citizenship Status is Required as this position will require the ability to Access US Only Data Systems.
  • U.S. Citizenship Status is Required as this position needs an Active U.S. Security Clearance as of Day One of Employment.
Ability To:
  • Employee must be able to work in a fast paced, highly pressured, multiple tasks environment.
  • Problem Solving:
  • Employee needs to be a self-starter and take initiative to solve classified document and Shipping/Receiving problems with minimum supervision.
Human Resources:
  • Employee will have direct contact with customer and contract personnel. They must have good phone etiquette and customer service.
  • Accountability:
  • Employee is accountable for classified documents shipped or received assigned to them. It is their responsibility to insure that the package is shipped according to U.S. Government regulation set by the NISPOM.
  • Employee is responsible to properly protect and safeguard classified material.
Required Education:
  • High school diploma and 12 years directly related working experience or
  • Associate's degree and 8 years directly related working experience or
  • Bachelor’s degree 4 years directly related working experience or
  • Master’s degree and 2 years of directly related working experience
