HPC Hardware Architect

Basic Qualifications

Education Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in systems engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience. Agile experience preferred.


Clearance Requirements:
Department of Defense TS/SCI with Polygraph security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities for this Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Hardware Architect - HPC. This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.  General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

 

Key Responsibilities:

The Hardware Architect - HPC will participate with others in an architecture planning team. As a member of the architecture planning team, the hardware architect will be responsible and accountable for the following:

  • Requirements to architecture planning and execution of commercial, custom commercial, and SPD systems. Architecture and application synergies. Reuse and upgrade opportunities.
  • Systems pathfinding.
  • Performance analysis.
  • HPC-facing network structure, technology, features, and performance.
  • Specification of interconnected fabric topology, technology, features, and performance.
  • Specification of storage hierarchy, capacity, technology, and performance.
  • Specification of memory hierarchy, capacity, technology, and performance.
  • Specification of CPU instruction set, concurrency, features, performance.
  • Power/energy planning and optimization.
  • Fault tolerance and fault recovery approaches.
  • Manufacturability, reliability, availability, serviceability.
  • Lifecycle cost analysis.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities::

  • Very strong use and understanding of systems engineering concepts, principles, and theories
  • Very strong knowledge of other related disciplines
  • Very strong proficiency with requirements management & system modeling tools
  • Recognizes various architectural patterns and applies them appropriately
  • Very strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Very strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to get buy-in on concepts and ideas
  • Creative thinker
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Effective in communicating issues, impacts, and corrective actions
  • Very strong ability to clearly report information relevant to sound systems engineering design
  • Very strong understanding of basic project leadership principles including SPI/CPI, Earned Value, Cost Account Management (CAM), and Statistical Process Controls
