  • TheHazardous Waste Technician will beresponsible for proper and adequate management and operation of installation HWfacilities in accordance with 40 CFR (Parts 260-266, 268, 270, 273, and 279),State of California HW Regulations, Pollution Prevention Act, and the installationHazardous Waste Management Plan.

Duties andResponsibilities:

  • Management/accomplishmentof waste pickup and the 90-day Hazardous Waste Accumulation Point (HWAP)/HazardousWaste Storage Facility HWSF.
  • Providesadministration of the HW module in the EESOH-MIS database, general HW operations,and Industrial Recycling processes.
  • Conductswaste sampling; conducts waste characterization and waste profile generation.
  • Maintainscompliance with all AF policies and goals on HW reduction.
  • PreparesHW containers for shipment and coordinates with transport/disposal contractors.
  • Tracksall movement of HW off-site using EESOH-MIS.
  • Providesmanagement of non-hazardous industrial and special waste, used oil, andoff-spec fuel; waste consolidation/lab packing, waste turn-in/preparation forshipment, pick-up of waste for transfer to central accumulation area.
  • Mustbe able to safely move and load extremely heavy drums and containers, in excessof 400 pounds, with provided material handling equipment .
  • Conductscompliance inspections of installation Satellite Accumulation Points.
  • Trackall HW containers from time of generation until they reach the ultimatedisposal facility.
  • Managementof the 90-day Central Accumulation Point/Hazardous Waste Accumulation Siteand/or TSDF. Includes waste consolidation, segregation of HW, management ofused oil and off-spec fuel, screen used oil, waste turn-in, facilityinspections (at least weekly), container inspections (at least weekly), testingof equipment (at least monthly), contingency planning, preparation for shipment,housekeeping; new, used, and unusable container management; and facilitymaintenance work orders.
  • Submitweekly list of containers awaiting shipment that have exceeded 45-days ofstorage time.
  • Conductassigned waste minimization activities.
  • Developscustom reports to support environmental reporting requirements.
  • Inventoryand maintain supplies to support the HW requirements.
  • Conductvarious environmental sampling, activities.
  • performwaste characterization, and waste profile generation.
  • AssistHazmat management when necessary.
  • Completeand maintain required training.

MinimumQualifications:(To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform eachessential duty satisfactorily.)

  • Candidatemust have a high school diploma or a GED.
  • Mustpossess a minimum of four years experience in hazardous waste management
  • Mustpass background check and have, or be able to obtain, NACI.
  • MilitaryHazmat/Hazardous Waste experience preferred.
  • Musthave a valid Drivers License

Knowledge, Skillsand Abilities:

  • Experiencemanagement of Hazardous Waste in California with and DoD hazardous waste operations.
  • Asolid understanding of Material Safety Data Sheets/Safety Data Sheets andHazardous Material identification and management is highly desirable.
  • Abilityto follow established procedures and carry out assignments independently,although work is primarily in an office environment that is adequately lighted,heated, and ventilated, incumbents may be subjected to rain, cold, bright sunetc.
  • Demonstrateknowledge of EESOH-MIS and/or relational databases.
  • Solidknowledge of Microsoft software products is required to include Excel andAccess.
  • Havea specific awareness of data quality related to databases and reportgeneration.
  • EESOH-MISspecific training is a plus.

  • While performing the duties of thisJob, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; climb orbalance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally liftand/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this jobinclude close vision.

  • The employee will normally work ina temperature-controlled office environment, with frequent exposure toelectronic office equipment.
  • During visits to areas ofoperations, may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions. Is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborneparticles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.
