Hardware Technician

Engility Corporation is seeking a Hardware Technician supporting the U.S. Navy SPAWAR Maintenance Engineering Support Center located on the Joint Expeditionary Base, Little Creek. The candidate shall follow hardware installation and de-installation documentation, document and track hardware components being installed and de-installed. This includes but is not limited to all ISNS/CANES support documents and technical drawings. The candidate will perform minor OEM/Firmware software installation, general pre-visual inspection and power up test of equipment, repair minor hardware deficiencies on the ISNS/CANES computer equipment/racks as needed.

  • Provide “Onsite” assistance in Troubleshooting and Repair of equipment when commands are local and workflow permits.
  • Maintain a stock of Out of Date, Obsolete, and Hard to Find parts to repair old network systems still in use.
  • Assist commands in properly identifying failed components so that accurate replacement parts can be properly ordered through the supply system, reducing system downtime.
  • Provide “In House” Troubleshooting and Repair of equipment when commands need immediate assistance as in getting underway within hours.
  • Provide telephone support to all commands on Troubleshooting Techniques to allow the Sailor to repair “Onboard” equipment to avoid Downtime and useless need of ordering replacement equipment.
  • Provide Subject Matter Expert (SME) advice and resolutions to network system operation procedures, preventing extended downtime for fleet units.
  • Disassemble, Photograph, and Document internal system components to better identify parts needed to fill Fleet Requisitions and accurately track variances in “Revision Levels” of “Top Level” devices.
  • Assist “Provisioners” in the proper identification of components to aid in the assignment of more accurate Part Numbers and Part Descriptions as they are assigned for support in the APL Listings.
  • Cross Reference individual components used across multiple platforms so that “Common” or “Like Part Numbers” can be utilized to fix various computer systems.
  • Receive and Strip De-Installed equipment racks for useable components and parts to repair similar items.
  • Identify “Weak Components” in system configurations to assist in determining future failures in system design. Enabling Logistics to properly plan and order projected requirements for Fleet Failures.
  • Identify, Resolve, and Report economical solutions to High Fleet Failure items saving time and money in needless replacement of system components
  • U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Level Security Clearance

  • U.S. Passport required once employed

  • HS Diploma is required and at least 3 years of experience in the mechanical, electrical or computer hardware field. Technical problem solving skills are required.

  • Past performance in electrical, electronic and mechanical principles to components and systems, including assembly, analysis, and documentation of results and quality testing is required. Supports and participates in the design, test, modification, fabrication and assembly of prototype electromechanical systems.

  • Capable to perform in a variety of tasks ranging from repetitive to non-repetitive production assembly operations on electronic and/or mechanical assemblies and subassemblies such as modules, boards, panels, drawers, frames, and cables.

  • Experience working from diagrams and drawings, makes initial layouts, and uses hand and/or power tools, jigs, and saws. Makes continuity checks on work in process and completed. May conduct quality inspections on processing line in accordance with quality specifications. May disassemble, modify, rework, reassemble, and test experimental or prototype assemblies and subassemblies according to specifications and under simulated conditions.

  • Have working knowledge of supporting MS Operating Systems: Such as, Windows XP, 7, etc, and familiar with Microsoft Office suite of applications, MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint.

  • Have “Basic” understanding/knowledge of Unix/Linux commands in order to support SUN/IBM and other OEM manufacturers during hardware troubleshooting and hardware analysis.

  • Mechanical Industry certifications are a plus
