HARDWARE TECHNICIAN

Job Description:
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
Organize and direct all hardware installations. Analyze and develop new hardware requirements and prepare specifications for hardware acquisitions.
 
Direct and lead preparation of engineering plans and site installation of technical design packages. Develop hardware installation schedules. Mobilize installation team.  Direct and lead preparation of drawings by documenting configuration changes at each site. Prepare site installation and test reports. Coordinate post installation operations and maintenance support.
 
Conduct site surveys; assess and document current site network configurations and user requirements. Analyze existing requirements and prepare specifications for hardware acquisitions. Prepare engineering plans and site installation Technical Design Packages. Develop hardware installation schedules. Prepare drawings documenting configuration changes at each site. Prepare site installation and test reports.
 
Configure computers, communications devices and peripheral equipment. Installs network hardware, telephony, fiber cables, multi-pair cables, IT infrastructure, and power circuits. Trains site personnel in proper use of hardware, IT infrastructure, cable/connector fabrication, power and proper power tools. Build specialized interconnecting cables (fiber optic, serial, CAT5E, RF, etc.). Knowledge of cabling, routers, telephony, communications equipment, Ethernet cabling and network protocols (TCP/IP), patch panels, fiber optic cabling and testing, troubleshooting and security procedures.
 
Required Qualifications:
*Working knowledge of the functions and capabilities of network interfaces and proper configuration of routers with appropriate modules.
*Demonstrated ability to apply concepts and commends required to install and troubleshoot CISCO routers in multi-protocol inter networks (U.S. Government networks) in a global WAN environment with centralized control.
*Ability to liaison with local, deployed, and CONUS engineering departments and DoD work centers in an effort to maintain immediate response to critical requirements resulting from analysis of current specification data on assigned systems.
 
Desired Qualifications:
A+ and a Network+ certification
 
Demonstrated experience with the following:
Hardware and communications
Performing site surveys
HP/Dell INTEL based PCs/servers
Hands-on experience in system installation standards and practices, to include TEMPEST cabling/ system/racks, and also supporting and implementing network/communication systems and infrastructure.
Experience related to the installation, design, repair, troubleshooting, fabrication, assembly, production, integration, and test of electronic equipment.
Experience in information technology hardware installation, maintenance background, with emphasis on computer and network hardware support such as: racking/stacking and interfacing of equipment such as receivers, recorders, converters, modems, routers, and computer based systems.
 
 
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Typically requires bachelor’s degree or equivalent, and a minimum five to seven years’ experience.
