Hardware Engineer

Job Description

We are looking for a Hardware Engineer to join our team of elite Data Center Engineers to manage and deploy systems in three (3) customer owned data centers.  As a Hardware Engineer, you will rack and test server equipment, remove PTI racks, servers, and server hardware, and be an integral part to the processes of analyzing new data center requirements, identifying where new equipment will be located, and assigning and installing rack space.

Your responsibilities will include the following:

  • Providing power connections to IT equipment
  • Ensuring HVAC and power balancing
  • Overseeing mechanical (HVAC) and electrical infrastructure
  • Maintaining floor diagrams, equipment locations, and rack elevations drawings
  • Assisting vendors (IBM, EMC, SUN, and VION) with placement and installation of equipment
  • Installing server racks and providing connectivity
  • Attending customer requirements meetings
  • Providing connectivity and power to racks, blades, and servers 
  • Testing and configuring servers and server connectivity
  • Tracing and documenting electrical circuits on the data center floor
  • Maintaining documentation and LN databases to track processes, installations and cabling infrastructure
  • Ensuring data center standards are met

You will have experience with the following:

  • 3-5 years of data center environment experience supporting application hosting requirements for enterprise and non-enterprise systems connected to multiple networks
  • Experience in developing criteria for implementing new systems in a data center environment
  • Demonstrated capability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated basic understanding of electrical components, including receptacles, circuit types, etc.
  • Experience in handling CAT5, CAT6 and fiber optic cabling, including installation, tracing, and troubleshooting
  • Experience configuring servers, communications devices, and peripheral equipment
  • Experience installing network hardware
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be capable of lifting 50 lbs. of equipment
  • Experience with MS Office Suite and enterprise ticketing system
  • Some physically active movement within a data center
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces (e.g., working under raised-access flooring)
  • Experience in creating and maintaining SOPs
  • Demonstrated experience with ability to provide multi-directional briefings to explain data center related projects and their risk, impacts, and benefits

You will have one of the following:

  • 10 Years of job related experience and High School/GED diploma
  • 8 Years of job related experience and Associate’s degree
  • 4-7 Years of job related experience and Bachelor’s degree
  • 3 Years of job related experience and Master’s degree
  • 2 Years of job related experience and Doctorate

Experience with the following is a plus:

  • Experience with one or more of the following:
    • Dell
    • HP BladeServers
    • IBM BladeCenters
    • Cisco network hardware
  • Experience with optimizing data center assets (HVAC, power, and floor space) to meet customer requirements and mitigate adverse impacts (e.g., hotspots) to the fullest extent possible
  • Experience with DCIM software, such as APC and Raritin
  • Experience with AutoCAD
  • Experience with electrical wiring diagrams, basic electrical calculations, etc.
  • Certified Data Center Professional
  • Certified Data Center Specialist
