Primary Purpose:

LGS Innovations, a leader in solving the most complex networking and communications challenges, is seeking a Hardware Engineer IV for our Westminster, CO location.

Under minimal direction, will design complex wireless subsystems for high reliability applications for both harsh and benign environments.

Duties and Responsibilities:


·         Develop block diagrams of potential hardware design concepts from high level requirements

·         Rapid prototyping and/or simulation of hardware design concepts to validate their performance

·         Perform part selection and schematic entry for analog/ digital circuit designs

·         Lead circuit design through layout by providing guidance on parts placement and critical routing

·         Troubleshoot prototype and production hardware in the lab using RF, analog, and digital test equipment

·         Travel to other LGS locations or customer sites, as necessary

·         Understand and adhere to all LGS Ethical and Compliance policies

·         Proactively ensure a safe work environment and adhere to LGS EH&S policies and procedures

·         Perform other duties, as required

·         Obtain/retain a government security clearance at the level to perform the job Minimum Qualifications: Skills and Knowledge:


·         Recent board level design experience with at least three of the following hardware design areas:


a.       Circuit design using custom and commercial ICs

b.       Embedded microcontrollers and associated interfaces (I2C, SPI, UART, USB)

c.       Power supply design:  chargers, switchers and linear regulation

d.       High speed digital design including FPGAs, DSPs, embedded processors and related peripherals

e.       Interfacing to high-speed A/D and D/A converters

f.        RF circuit design using commercial and custom RFICs

g.       Sensor design


·         Experience with power budgets and thermal analysis of board level ICs

·         Experience with at least one schematic capture/PCB layout package (Mentor Graphics preferred)

·         Ability to work with embedded firmware engineers to address board level requirements

·         Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment

·         Knowledge of Microsoft software applications and other software applications, as required

·         Experience with the entire hardware design cycle, from concept to production

·         Experience developing real-world hardware solutions


Minimum Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and 6 - 8 years’ related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, skills and experience
Master’s degree preferred
Preferred Qualifications: N8:N9Additional Desired Skills:

Chassis level electrical design working with mechanical engineers to integrate PCAs into rugged housings for multi-mission requirement
Coax and wire bundle/connector selection
Power budgets
Chassis Schematics and BOM generation

Design and simulation tools
Knowledge of various communications protocols and systems
Programming experience (Python, Matlab)FPGA development experience (VHDL, Verilog), and associated synthesis + place/route tools
Experience developing automated testing suites to verify hardware performance
Basic mechanical enclosure design
