Hardware Architect

The Hardware Architect - HPC will participate with others in an architecture planning team.  As a member of the architecture planning team, the hardware architect will be responsible and accountable for the following:

  • Requirements to architecture planning and execution of commercial and custom commercial High Performance Computing (HPC) systems (Supercomputers).
  • Systems pathfinding.
  • Performance analysis.
  • HPC-facing network structure, technology, features, and performance.
  • Specification of interconnected fabric topology, technology, features, and performance.
  • Specification of storage hierarchy, capacity, technology, and performance.
  • Specification of memory hierarchy, capacity, technology, and performance.
  • Specification of CPU instruction set, concurrency, features, performance.
  • Power/energy planning and optimization.
  • Fault tolerance and fault recovery approaches.
  • Manufacturability, reliability, availability, serviceability.
  • Lifecycle cost analysis.

An active TS/SCI/FS Poly security clearance is required by the customer - no exceptions

Required Skills
  • Experience in a High Performance Computing environment and a demonstrated understanding of HPC architecture

  • Very strong use and understanding of systems engineering concepts, principles, and theories

  • Very strong knowledge of other related disciplines

  • Very strong proficiency with requirements management & system modeling tools

  • Recognizes various architectural patterns and applies them appropriately

  • Very strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications 

  • Very strong written and verbal communications skills 

  • Ability to get buy-in on concepts and ideas

  • Creative thinker

  • Ability to multi-task

  • Effective in communicating issues, impacts, and corrective actions 

  • Very strong ability to clearly report information relevant to sound systems engineering design

  • Very strong understanding of basic project leadership principles including SPI/CPI, Earned Value, Cost Account Management (CAM), and Statistical Process Controls 

  • An active TS/SCI/FS Poly security clearance is required by the customer - no exceptions
