GPS Systems Engineer

Description

SAIC is seeking a systems engineer to join our team of diverse GPS Systems Engineering and Integration (SE&I) team. The GPS SE&I Team provides specialized engineering, analysis, operations support, and subject matter expertise to the SMC/GP Directorate and other GPS customers. The team also provides systems engineering and analysis services to include system development, enterprise and system architecture, acquisition, testing, operations, and sustainment support for existing and new capabilities. Team members also provide an enterprise perspective for identification and review of risks and risk mitigation plans and work to institutionalize systems engineering best practices across the SMC/GP Directorate organization. Major duties of the position include:

  • Assessing the GPS Control Segment’s technical baseline requirements for Architecture Evolution Plan (AEP), Launch & Checkout Capability (LCC), GPS III Contingency Operations services (COps), M-code Early Use (MCEU), and Next Generation Operational Control System (OCX) for sustainment and enterprise impacts

  • Identify derived requirements from government specifications and interface control documents, and assisting with translating requirements into tasks for hardware and software sustainers and developers

  • Supporting the GPS Directorate in defining, capturing, and maintaining the technical, schedule, and cost risks throughout the system lifecycle and developing risk mitigation courses of action and assessing impacts of risks and proposed changes

  • Collaborating with contractor and government leads to ensure that all system and interface requirements are consistent and valid across the GPS Enterprise

  • Supporting the GPS Directorate in managing a segment/division-level Technical Baseline Configuration Management Process to include preparing for and executing segment level Engineering Review Boards and Configuration Control Boards.

  • Maintaining control of and providing engineering recommendations to the government on all sustainment projects/studies/tests from inception through completion


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM related area of study (Experience will be considered for non-STEM degrees)

  • Current DoD Secret Security Clearance

  • 9+ years of system engineering or operations experience with space and ground segments (Academic degree will be considered for less experience)

  • Strong, proactive leader who takes the initiative to research, identify and develop courses of action to solve customer challenges

  • Experience with requirements, interface management, risk management, and configuration management processes

  • Experience working with Air Force/DoD customers in an acquisition and/or sustainment environment

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills as well as prioritization and organizational skills

  • Master’s degree in STEM related area of study

  • GPS Operations and/or sustainment experience
