POSITION SUMMARY:
The Firefighter/EMT-B is responsible for responding toemergencies during designated and assigned Emergency Response shift of a 24/7Fire Station in accordance with the performance work statement. Emergency response includes all fires, firealarms, crashes, accidents, hazardous material incidents, and rescue requests toassure the daily operational effectiveness of the department. The qualifiedcandidate shall report to the Lead Figherfighter and work with a team of fireservices support personnel.
MAJOR JOB ACTIVITIES: Pleaselist by order of priority and, if possible, provide the percentage of timespent on the activity all should equal 100%.
1. Responsible for responding toemergencies as a line Firefighter/EMT-B in accordance with the performance workstatement and NFPA 72 Fire Alarm and Signaling, NFPA 101 Life Safety Codes and theAFI 32-2001 Fire Prevention Program.
2. Responds to emergency care andrescue involving potential loss of life or bodily injury; maintains control,manages and directs or assists with patient care at the scene of a pre-hospitalemergency.
3. Applies cardiopulmonaryresuscitation per American Heart Association standards and performs other basicemergency medical procedures.
4. Drives and manages the ambulancevehicle while on duty, operates ambulance in a safe manner while responding tothe scene, and during the transport of patients.
5. Maintains vehicles, equipment,tools, and protective clothing in a serviceable ready-response condition.
6. Operates pumps, foam generators,boom and ground sweeps nozzles, and other similar equipment as needed.
7. Uses a variety of specialprotective gear in situations where poisonous gases, radioactive materials, andhazardous biological products are involved.
8. Exercises caution to avoid teamand personal injury and property damage.
9. Protect and preserve evidenceindicating incident cause for investigation.
10. Follows operational policy, procedures and contingency plans.
MATERIAL & EQUIPMENTDIRECTLY USED:
Fire fighting apparatus, tools,ladders, equipment, and systems. Basic ambulance and medical equipment.
Personal computer, printer,calculator, FAX machine, copy machine and other general office equipment.Operates ambulance and specialized fire vehicles/equipment.. May be exposed topotentially hazardous conditions that require wear of hard hats, gloves, steeltoed boots, hearing protection, safety glasses and other personal protectionequipment (PPE); may be required to push, pull and lift heavy equipment. Use ofportable or vehicle equipped radios to maintain contact and accountability ofwork activities.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Work will be indoors and outdoors.Exposure to heat, cold, dust, noise, chemicals may occur. Overtime and shiftwork may be required depending on contractual needs. Employee must comply with all Federal, Stateand Local regulations and published Company work rules as well as writteninstructions. Task specific workenvironment training will be provided as required. Must be prepared to functionin a wartime environment to support U. S. interests. 100% Overseas Assignment.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
Physical requirements includelifting up to 35lb, team lifting up to 50lbs, climbing, extended sitting, orstanding, stooping, stretching, and bending. Occasional climbing and working in high places may be required
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certifications: One year related experience may be substituted forone year of education, if degree is required.
High Schoolgraduate
Must be Fire FighterI & II certified, Airport Fire Fighter certified and Hazardous MaterialsAwareness and Operations certified.
Certified by theNational Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians as an EMT and American HeartAssociation cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification or equivalent atthe health care provider level.
Must pass andmaintain entry-level physical examination in accordance with NFPA 1582
Must have acurrent, valid U. S. Passport and Driver’s License (able to drive manualtransmission).
Must have andmaintain a valid U. S. SECRET Security Clearance prior to deployment.
Must be able topass a flight line access test and obtain flight line access badge.
Must be able topass employment and deployment qualification requirements that include
psychological, medical, dental, drug testing andbackground checks.
Candidates mustsuccessfully complete both online and hands-on CBRN (chemical, biological,
radiological and nuclear) defense training.Training includes the successful fit testing of DOD
provided protective gear.
Experience:
Two years fire fighting and EMT-B experience in the USMilitary, DOD or civilian.
Be able to process information quickly and efficiently todetermine nature of complaint.
Be able to gather pertinent information from patient,bystanders, and scene to make rapid
transport decision.
Interpret vital signs to accurately determine patient’sphysiological status.
Must be licensed to drive an ambulance or similar vehicle,and have a good driving record.
Ambulance operator’s role is critical, so they must be dependable,resilient, calm under pressure,
use sound judgment and capable of making quickdecisions.
Skills:
Must be proficient with Microsoft programs such as Outlook,Excel, Word, Power Point
Fluent in English with good verbal, reading, andwriting skills.
Performs all tasks IAW verbal and written instructions to theestablished standards.
Ableand willing to work periods of long hours to meet mission requirements
Military experience in a contingency environmentand knowledge and experience working with government contracts preferred.
