Explosives Technician

Applied Research Associates/Test Technology Division (ARA/TTD) has an immediate full-time opening for an Explosives Technician position. We are located at Kirtland Air Force Base (KAFB) Albuquerque, New Mexico where ARA has provided explosive operations for research and development continuously for over 25 years. Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance and current vehicle registration to gain access onto the Air Force Base for an interview.

What you'll do as an Explosives Technician

Primary Duties:

  • Work with other Explosive Technicians in supporting $2M per year explosive testing programs.
  • Operating equipment to include forklifts, backhoes, metal cutting and welding equipment and fabrication of explosive stands and experimental targets.
  • Locate and understand explosive safety procedures and operating instructions and assure all explosive team members understand the procedures.
  • Confirm explosive operations complies with all DoD and ATF regulations.
  • Participate in the ARA transportation program and comply with CDL electronic logging requirements.
  • Assist in the storage of explosives to include inventory, security, inspections and maintenance.
  • Contribute in providing technical and safety information about explosives.
  • Interact with clients; attend meetings and make sure all customer requirements are meet.
  • Follow procedures for blending explosives and oversee explosive casting at various facilities.
  • Spend most of the time installing firing cables and equipment, and fielding explosives at four primary test sites at KAFB, White Sands Missile Range, Moriarty NM, Fort Stockton TX, and at other remote explosive sites.
  • Knowledge of high voltage firing systems, remote firing systems and exploding bridge wire detonators is preferable.

Requirements

  • Graduate of EOD School.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a Secret Clearance.
  • Some out-of-town travel will be required.
  • Employment is contingent upon obtaining and maintaining a Commercial Driver’s License.
  • Please provide Ammunition & Explosives Certification Training Documents.
  • Must be able to work with carpentry hand tools and follow construction plans.
  • Respond to bunker alarms that can occur any time of the day or night.
Experience Required
  • Minimum 2 years of hands on work with explosives
