English Language Instructor

Key Role:

Assist the program manager, English language teaching (ELT) coordinator, and ELTSs with effective, consistent delivery American Language Course (ALC) curricula. Maintain a cross-culturally sensitive, supportive, classroom environment and engage, exercise, and assess clients' developing linguistic, sociolinguistic, discourse, and strategic competence to support the military's needs and goals. Diagnose and recommend tutorial support from ELTs for functional aspects of language that are noticeably weak in students' test results and assignments. Identify and report curriculum delivery, program material, and educational technology gaps or limitations to the ELT coordinator. Explore English for Occupational Purposes (EOP) and English for Specific Purposes (ESP) with students to incentivize objectives for reaching advanced levels of English language proficiency. Participate in relevant professional development opportunities by networking with experts through national and international associations.

Basic Qualifications:
-3+ years of experience as an ELT or ESP instructor for residential military students

-Experience with cross-cultural training or global acculturation through international exchange
-Experience in advising or liaising with military points of contact

-Experience with English as a primary language
-Secret clearance

-BA or BS degree in English, English as a Second Language (ESL) or English as a Foreign Language (EFL), Instructional Technology, or Foreign Language Education

Additional Qualifications:
-Experience with ESP or relevant occupational English specialization

-Experience as a language program director, curriculum coordinator, technology and language lab specialist

-Experience with the US Navy or other Armed Forces

-Ability to speak conversational Arabic or show expertise in formal written Arabic

-Possession of excellent oral and written communication skills

-MA degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) or Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL), Applied Linguistics or Sociolinguistics, International Education, Instructional Technology, Foreign Language Education, or a related field

-Completion of an academic minor in Military Science, Language Management, or International Relations
-TESOL Certification

-Completion of ESP or relevant occupational English specialization training
 

Clearance:
Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; Secret clearance is required.
