Engineering Technician I

Job Description:

This is an entry-level position for an engineering hardware technician. The ideal candidate is a graduate from a technical school or an Army veteran that was trained in the area of electronics. Has proficiency in all phases of mechanical and prototype assembly. The candidate selected for this position will work in a small team that assembles limited quantities of various Army training prototype systems. The candidate should be willing and able to perform a 2-person lift of 150 lbs. The candidate should be able to solder surface mount components on printed circuit boards, build military cables with associated mil-spec connectors, able to use a computer, enter data in a database, and have organizational skills, such as tracking hardware inventory. Workload and skill sets change continuously. Flexibility and the ability to work with others are vital. The facility is an SEI Level 4 quality operation and therefore expects consistently high quality output from all employees.

Duties and Responsibilities:

- Solder surface mount components on printed circuit boards

- Assemble and integrate computer hardware circuits and components to be used in Army training devices

- Perform a wide range of complex electro-mechanical assembly operations

- Under limited supervision use tools such as multimeters, drills, soldering irons, screwdrivers, precision measuring instruments, and other hand-held tools

- Follows verbal and written instructions such as schematics, assembly layouts, and sketches in completing a wide variety of assembly and subassembly tasks

- Can follow wiring diagrams and is able to assemble cables, crimp pins, and perform continuity checks

- Perform quality checks

TYPICAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Technical school diploma or equivalent.

Education and Experience:

- High school diploma and technical school diploma is required

- 4 years of related experience is required.

Required Skills:

- Experience with wiring, crimping pins, soldering surface mount components on circuit cards, and reading schematic diagrams

- Experience performing detailed work on small devices is required

- Experience working with computers

- Proficient with the Microsoft Office Tool Suite

Clearance Requirement:

- Must be able to obtain a SECRET security clearance
