Engineering Intern 1

Must meet all of the following criteria: Be able to provide semiprofessional technical support for engineers working in such areas as research, design, development, testing, or manufacturing process improvement. Work pertains to software, electrical, electronic, or mechanical components or equipment. These interns are required to have a base knowledge of science, technology, math or engineering. Included are workers who prepare design drawings and assist with the design, evaluation, and/or modification of software, machinery and/or equipment.


Performs standardized or prescribed assignments involving a sequence of related operations, follows standard work methods on recurring assignments but receives explicit instructions on unfamiliar assignments. Technical adequacy of routine work is reviewed on completion; non-routine work may be reviewed in progress.


This intern performs at this level, one or a combination of such typical duties as:

  • Following specific instructions, assembles, develops or constructs simple or standard software, equipment or parts, servicing or repairing simple instruments or equipment;
  • Conducting a variety of tests using established methods, preparing test specimens, adjusting and operating equipment, recording test data, and pointing out deviations resulting from equipment malfunction or observational errors;
  • Extracting engineering data from various prescribed but non-standardized sources, processing the data following well-defined methods including algebra, geometry, or calculus and presenting the data in prescribed form.

Education and Experience:
High School Diploma plus 2 years of academic study in a science, technology, engineering, math or equivalent program in an accredited college or university.

U.S. CITIZENSHIP REQUIRED. Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

Possess an active Interim Secret or full Secret clearance prior to starting. Ability to speak, read, write English. Possess a valid Driver's License.

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Generally an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task. An inside environment may be a cubicle (considerations: close quarters, low to moderate noise, bright or dim lighting). Outside work may include various environmental conditions including warm and cold climates. Needs to be able to work well with co-workers, customer, and all levels of management. No hazards on job or unusual environmental conditions. Work site is located in Ft. Huachuca, AZ.

Physical Requirements

Exerts up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally, up to 10 lbs. of force frequently, or up to 5 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.

Equipment and Machines

Personal computer, scanner, copy machine, telephone, laser printer, fax machine, and other office equipment including desk supplies.

Must have the ability to visually see objects close in on a small tablet/laptop computers or "smart" phones.

Must be proficient and able to type information, on a virtual keyboard, on a computer tablet or laptop.


Attendance

Regular hours will be between Monday - Friday 7:00am - 4:00pm. This is a 9/80 work schedule allowing for every other Friday off. Regular attendance of scheduled hours is extremely important, but not critical, except for deadlines and meetings. Punctuality and regular attendance are necessary to meet deadlines. Must exhibit flexibility of work hours to adjust to surge situations based on critical mission requirements.

Other Essential Functions

Must demonstrate professional behavior at all times when dealing with customers, management and co-workers. Must have clear, concise and accurate communications skills in English, both verbal and written. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk to employees or others. Must maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a professional manner. Independent personal transportation to office or work site is required. Travel to and from customer’s locations and the test fields may be required to support projects. This may involve airline travel. In some cases, accommodations can possibly be made for POV, if necessary. When operating any vehicle for work purposes, must wear seat belt and in addition, no cellular devices are to be used when vehicle is in motion. Must pass drug screen.
