Engineering Fellow - Receiver - Exciter Architectural Design Engineer

Architecture Design, analysis, simulation, development and test/integration of Receiver/Exciter circuits and sub-systems in RF front end, A/D conversion, DDS, Amplifier, Filter networks, Up/Down conversion,high power amplifiers, etc.

Engineering Fellow in the Hardware Engineering Center of Raytheon’s Space and Airborne Systems (SAS) division, specifically in the Transmitter, Receiver & Exciter Products department, responsible for the development of Space & Airborne Receiver & Exciter sub-systems. The primary role will be technical direction and program leadership on critical programs for RF & Microwave sub-system, unit and module product development using cutting edge technology. Individual must be an RF subject matter expert in the design and development of state-of-the-art Receiver/Exciter, EW, communications, and other systems across multiple platforms (i.e. Space, Airborne and Ground). Also required is extensive technical expertise from concept through production of RF & Microwave hardware. This individual is very capable of developing requirements for subsystem, unit and module products and perform allocations/architecture trades. Experience architectural, conceptual and hands-on design of Digital Receivers, Synthesizers, A/D Converters.

The candidate will also develop external customer relationships, partner with internal Business Development (BD) and Front End of the Business (FEOTB) to pursue CRAD and contract opportunities and collaborate as technical interface with key suppliers/customers as needed.

Responsibilities include guiding multi-disciplined teams towards solutions that complement existing and future Raytheon RF and EW systems. The candidate will be expected to lead the generation, flow down and management of system level functional requirements to lower levels. The candidate shall develop architectures, concepts and models for the purpose of system performance optimization in concert with environmental effects and other platform specific constraints. The candidate shall have demonstrated abilities to deliver compelling presentations both internally and to external customers to help influence technical approaches. The candidate shall also have demonstrated abilities in leading integrated sensor teams that include systems, mechanical, electrical and RF disciplines to develop solutions adhering to performance, cost, schedule and quality requirements.

This person would be a critical team member expected to develop winning strategies for upcoming proposals and support Mission Area BD office booking goals. This individual would have existing connections within the customer and supplier communities and be able to work across all other disciplines to leverage existing technology and recognize and exploit performance gaps to create new business opportunities.

Extended experience in program / large team leadership/management including earned value management. Additional roles include interface to customer and program office, leading proposals for new business, development of technology roadmaps, mentoring, and deployment / improvement of design processes.


Required Skills:
  • Minimum of 20 years of industry experience in RF/Microwave hardware design & development.

  • System design, subsystem design, and architectural (functional and physical) trade analysis of Receivers, exciter & related products.

  • Experience directing the design and development of RF products including specification development (DOORS experience), performance validation traceable to requirements, and technical direction

  • Innovation as evidenced by patents awarded

  • Outstanding written communication skills evidenced by published presentations or articles
• Experience leading proposals including development of technical solution and writing portions of both technical and cost volume
  • Experienced in application (create/monitor) of Earned Value Management System and schedules
  • Ability perform trade study of RF products topologies
  • Expert/experience in one or more of the following software tools:
    Matlab, ADS, System Vue, HFSS, CST, Mentor systems analysis and simulation
  • Performing design and supplier trade studies and supplier assessments
  • Identifying and managing risks and opportunities
  • Examining the effects of power consumption, weight, thermal load, performance, and cost on system performance
  • Experience performing root cause analysis and correcting defects
  • Self-starter with initiative and independent judgment
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks at a time
  • Optimistic, positive attitude
  • Ability to travel
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. TS & SSBI Clearance.
