Engineering Fellow - Autonomous and Collaborative Systems

We are the Signal Processing (SP) Center (SPC) within the System Design & Performance (SD&P) Directorate at Raytheon Missile Systems and we are seeking an Engineering Fellow with experience in research and development of autonomous and collaborative systems to join our team. We are helping to shape the future of innovative weapon system solutions in response to our customers' most urgent needs and have an opportunity for you to join us!

The SD&P Directorate is responsible for systems engineering, algorithm development, guidance, navigation and control, and system modeling and simulation for Raytheon Missile Systems’ (RMS) broad portfolio of projects, programs and products. Within the directorate, SPC has the responsibility to design, develop, and provide performance analysis for algorithms for RMS products and new business initiatives.
Responsibilities include systems level engineering, developing system architecture, algorithm design and development, performance analysis, and customer interface. As an Engineering Fellow, your responsibilities will also include serving as a teacher to multiple apprentices, participating across multiple programs and helping to drive autonomy and collaboration roadmaps and implementation on programs.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
  • Design, implement and analyze system performance and associated risk assessments in simulation, hardware subsystem test, and flight test environments as both an Individual Contributor and a Technical Lead
  • Develop innovative solutions to complex technical challenges often involving multiple subsystem interactions as both an Individual Contributor and a Technical Lead
  • Provide technical leadership (along with hands on participation) for SPC development activities related to autonomous and collaborative systems and be part of the team to drive the solutions into our products
  • Proficiency with algorithmic prototyping and design in Matlab and C/C++
  • Communicate with customers (internal and external) to understand requirements and communicate capabilities
  • Actively participate in definition of team objectives and provide solutions to complex technical tasks including system design decisions involving trade studies, requirements allocation, and verification methods
  • Execute concept and performance trade studies, demonstrate capabilities developed
  • Engage across engineering disciplines to ensure proper implementation and test of autonomous and collaborate designs
  • Pursue advanced development funding both internal and external to Raytheon
  • Provide support for programs through participation in project design reviews and peer reviews, including technical briefings to internal leadership and external customers
  • Be a strong advocate for technical integrity across multiple programs or product lines
  • Be responsible for technical growth of apprentices
  • Demonstrate ability to continuously adapt to changing business needs


Required Skills and Experience:
  • Twelve (12) years of engineering experience in autonomous system architecture and development, including design of algorithms for autonomy and collaboration
  • Four (4) years of demonstrated systems team leadership experience
  • System design experience collaborating across multiple engineering disciplines, such as test, electronics, mechanical, and software engineering
  • Recent applied work history understanding and developing system level requirements, and to performing subsystems requirements allocation and identification of dependencies
  • Prior experience conducting trade studies and performance analysis at the system and system-of-systems level
  • Practical work experience assessing technical, developmental and execution risks to performance objectives and experience in communicating status to business leadership and customers
  • Experience presenting technical data and interacting with customer community in design reviews and technical interchange meetings
  • Patent applications, invention disclosures and/or reviewed publications in applicable technical areas within the past five (5) years

Desired Skills:
  • A “big thinker” who does not operate in a silo, but can think about where a program or product line is heading or needs to go, while considering the technical aspects of how to get there
  • Experience in aerospace/military systems development
  • Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Math or related fields

Required Education (including Major):
  • B.S. from an ABET accredited institution in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Math, Physics or related engineering or scientific discipline
Other Requirements:
