The Experiment Design department at Idaho National Lab is seeking a skilled professional to join its team as an Engineering Collaboration Specialist.

The Experiment Design department is responsible for the design, fabrication, and installation of new and existing irradiation experiments. The individual's primary focus in this position will be to collaborate with experiment design engineers to document designs, maintain configuration management, interface between the department design engineers and drafters, and assist with specification and procurement of materials for experiment fabrication and installation. The individual collaborates with design engineers to provide machinists with 3D files for machining components.

More specific duties include: developing a new 3D model based configuration management process for irradiation experiments and related hardware; training of department engineers and drafters to ensure that configuration management requirements and processes are understood and implemented; being responsible for the development of releasable fabrication drawings through application of empirical knowledge, design standards, and practices; being responsible for drafting checking and approval of releasable drawings.

  • Position requires incumbent to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy (DOE) "L" security clearance. Therefore, US citizenship is required.
  • Minimum education and experience requirements include a BS/BA degree plus 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with Electrical, Structural, and Mechanical drafting/design techniques to facilitate the development of engineering design drawings is required.
  • Design work experience with 3D modeling software (e.g. Inventor, SolidWorks, PTC Creo) is required.
  • Must be able to work in a culturally diverse environment.
  • Senior level knowledge of and experience in the use of nationally recognized standards (e.g. ANSI, ASME, MIL-STD, IEEE, etc.) is required.
  • Advanced knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing is preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering file management systems is preferred.
  • Experience with Model Based Definition (a.k.a. 3D drawings) is highly desirable. For example, knowledge or implementation of ASME Y14.41 and/or MIL-STD-31000A, Appendices B and C.
