Embedded Software Engineer/Principal Embedded Software Engineer

The Northrop Grumman Undersea Systems is seeking a Principal or a Senior Principal Embedded Software Engineer to support complex, dynamic maritime programs of strategic importance to our classified business area and National Defense.

Candidates will work on software for Mission Systems in all phases of the software development lifecycle, primarily in C/C++. The selected individual will interface with systems engineering to develop flow down software requirements and technical specifications. Responsibilities include identifying risks, suggesting mitigation, tracking defects, developing resolutions, and reporting status. The individual will also be expected to develop and execute unit tests and build verification test plans, and track and report test status.

Additionally, the selected individual will conduct reviews of software related products, software designs, and additional technical documents. The responsibilities include active participation in Integrated Product Teams (IPT), design reviews, and other reviews, as required. The selected individual will actively participate in the technical peer reviews to ensure system/software requirements are being met from an end to end system point of view. Individuals must be self-starters and able to efficiently operate in a team environment. Existing engineering and system specialists will be made available to assist with any activities associated with executing primary tasking. However, the selected individuals will be expected to prioritize and make recommendations to Technical Leads, as required, to implement tasking assigned. All job functions require close teamwork across functional disciplines and integrated product teams in a fast paced environment. This program area is expanding which offers the potential for future growth opportunities (technical lead, software architect, test lead, etc.) for candidates who successfully demonstrate exceptional performance and leadership.

This position is located in Annapolis, MD.

This position ma be filled at a higher grade based on the qualifications listed below.

Qualifications:

This position may be filled at either an Embedded Software Engineer or Principal Embedded Software Engineer Level:

Basic Qualifications for an Embedded Software Engineer:
  • Bachelor's Degree of higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineer, Electrical Engineering or other STEM discipline
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience within the software engineering industry (0 years with MS degree)
  • Experience working in C/C++
  • Proficiency working with real-time embedded software
  • Experience working with full software lifecycle: specification, design, implementation, integration, debug and maintenance is required
  • Candidate must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD TS Security Clearance


Basic Qualifications for a Principal Embedded Software Engineer
  • Bachelor's Degree of higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineer, Electrical Engineering or other STEM discipline
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience within the software engineering industry (3 years with MS degree; 0 years with PhD)
  • Experience working in C/C++
  • Proficiency working with real-time embedded software
  • Experience working with full software lifecycle: specification, design, implementation, integration, debug and maintenance is required
  • Candidate must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD TS Security Clearance


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Active DoD Security clearance at TS level or higher
  • Experience with VBA and MS Access database
  • Experience with LabView and LabView TestStand
  • Experience with VxWorks
  • Experience with signal processing
