Electro-Optical Subsystems Engineer II

Raytheon Overview:
Raytheon Missile Systems is the world’s largest missile producer. RMS is responsible for the design, test, manufacture, and support of weapon systems equipping the US warfighter and our international allies to meet a large variety of demanding mission requirements. Every missile system produced by Raytheon contains advanced electrical subsystems. These enable target detection, target tracking, guidance, navigation, signal processing, and communication in extreme battle-field environments. The Electrical Subsystems Directorate (ESD) is responsible for all aspects of these subsystems’ design, test, and production.

Job Description:
The Electrical Subsystems Directorate (ESD) Subsystems Center (SSC) is currently searching for an Electrical Engineer with experience in electro-optics

This candidate shall be able to perform a broad range of Electro Optical (EO) subsystem engineering tasks related to infrared advanced missile seekers and guidance subsystems: develop EO sensor system simulations and conduct analyses to characterize EO performance for developmental and production deliverable seeker assets based on laboratory data; develop requirements and conduct requirement validation of EO subsystems based on analysis and/or testing; develop and conduct EO subsystem trade studies; work across multiple engineering disciplines including EO hardware design (detector, optics, cryogenic systems, opto-mechanical), video electronics, EO integration and verification, video signal processing, missile simulation and analysis, and system engineering to establish multi-disciplinary technical solutions for EO products which ensure design integrity and operational performance under all applicable environments.

U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance as of day one of employment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Candidate will work within a multi-disciplined team, as well as:
  • Work independently, with little supervision.
  • Develop a network, and know when to use it to get help.
  • Ensure proper engineering discipline is applied to all designs.
  • Provide the best technical solution within cost and schedule constraints.

Required Skills:

  • Minimum of 6 years of Engineering experience
  • Knowledge of EO simulation, analysis, and hardware laboratory testing.
  • Experience in systems engineering including requirements development, requirement validation, and subsystem trade studies.
  • Experience using Computer Analysis Tools (such as MatLab, IDL, or MS Excel) for EO modeling, simulation, and analysis applications.
  • Familiarity with EO hardware (detectors, optics, cryogenic systems, gimbal platforms, video electronics, lasers).

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with space-based EO subsystems.
  • Experience with missile EO products.
  • Good verbal, written and presentation skills.
  • Have an engineer's curiosity, and desire to learn and grow
  • A current Top-Secret DoD security clearance.
  • A Master of Science degree in EE, Optics, Physics, or Systems.
  • Have an engineer’s curiosity, and a desire to learn and grow.
  • Ability to work across multi-disciplinary teams to develop technical solutions for missile EO products in a leadership capacity.
  • Ability to produce high-quality technical reports.

Required Education (including Major):

B.S Degree required. Majors: Physics, Systems, Electrical Engineering, Signal Processing, Imaging Sciences, Photonics, Optics or related STEM degree.

Security Requirement:
This position requires the eligibility to obtain a security clearance. Non-US citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance. The Defense Industrial Security Clearance Office (DISCO), an agency of the Department of Defense, handles and adjudicates the security clearance process. Security clearance factors include, but are not limited to, allegiance to the US, foreign influence, foreign preference, criminal conduct, security violations and drug involvement.
