Electro-Optic Engineer

SAIC is seeking an Electro-Optical (EO) Engineer to join the National Security Group (NSG) in our Chantilly, VA office.  provides specialized engineering, analysis and operations support to a variety of Intelligence Community (IC) and Department of Defense (DoD) customers. We support the generation after next of national security-related systems based in space, in the air and on the ground.
 
NSG has an opening for an engineer to provide systems engineering and technical advisory services to an IC research and development (R&D) customer. The customer is developing the next-generation of spacecraft architectures, hardware and software solutions for the IC. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Provide technical review and assessment of GEOINT portfolio technologies, projects, and interdependencies
  • Advise on issues of feasibility and applicability of relevant new technologies to future GEOINT satellite architectures and spacecraft concepts
  • Provide support to acquisition, source selection and programmatic processes
  • Support GEOINT R&D for future systems and architectures
  • Develop documents and briefings to communicate work or study status, brief government and industry as required
  • Provide technical support to customer activities

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in engineering, science, or related discipline
  • 15 years relevant experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic, and energetic environment
  • Effective interpersonal skills, strong briefing and writing skills
  • Aptitude for on-site Systems Engineering and Technical Advisor (SETA) work
  • 5+ years of experience in Defense and/or Intelligence Community GEOINT satellite programs
  • Expertise in design, analysis, manufacture and testing of optical components, particularly space telescopes
  • Knowledge of systems engineering as applied to satellite/ground architectures, spacecraft and payloads
  • Experience with the government acquisition cycle, requirements processes, budgetary practices and acquisition documentation
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office applications
  • Active TS/SCI w/Poly

Desired Qualifications

 
  • Advanced degree in engineering, science, or related discipline
  • Experience in one or more of the following:
  • Telescope design, assembly, integration, and test
  • Opto-mechanical design
  • Electro-optics
  • Computational optics
  • Focal Plane Assemblies
  • Modeling in Zemax and/or CodeV
  • Prior US military experience
