Electrician

       

Performance Location:  The individual filling this position will be supporting PAE on a contract for the US Department of State and working at the US Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan.  The work may also include temporary assignments in outlying sites at the and other locations in Afghanistan. Periodic travel with extended overnight stays may be required. Percentage of travel will vary significantly but on average is expected to be less than 10% of the total time.

Working Environment:  The candidate will work on construction and maintenance sites including exposure to the dangers inherent with traveling to and working on such sites.

Work Schedule:  This position works ten hours/day six days a week minimum.  The candidate is on-call 24/7, participates in a duty phone rotation and must be willing to quickly respond to emergencies and contingencies as they occur to ensure the continued operation of the facilities.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

The Electricians duties and responsibilities include at a minimum:

  • Perform work required for the repair, maintenance, installation and modernization of electrical and fire alarm systems for buildings, equipment and grounds at the U.S. Embassy in Kabul and as required at outlying sites.
  • Perform work required for the repair, maintenance, installation and modernization of 15 Kv electrical distribution systems and equipment.
  • Perform thermal imaging inspections and analysis of electrical equipment.
  • Locate and determine electrical malfunctions using test equipment.
  • Repair malfunctions by such methods as replacing burned out elements, fuses and replacing defective wiring.
  • Clean and repair electrical motors.
  • Test electrical equipment such as motors, heaters and controls for safety and efficiency using standard test equipment and by observing functions.
  • Install fixtures, wiring conduits, motors and other electrical equipment.
  • Inspect circuits for specified shielding and grounding.
  • Report any malfunctions or lack of compliance to the Electrical Supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned.

Minimum Acceptable Experience and Qualification Levels:

The Electrician shall have the following qualifications and experience for this position:

  • Must have five years experience as a Journeyman Electrician working on large multi-building campus type facilities including 15Kv power distribution systems.
  • Prior experience maintaining major manufacturers’ fire alarm systems is preferred.
  • Able to proactively analyze a situation and to make frequent technical decisions based on specifications and electrical codes.
  • Must have knowledge of the occupational hazards of the electrical trade and related safety precautions and considerable skill in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment.
  • Knowledge in the discipline of operations and maintenance projects in an international environment preferred.
  • Ability to collect, analyze and summarize data and prepare daily reports and work orders.
  • Must have good organizational and communication skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions independently.
  • Experience in an austere OCONUS environment with a with multi-cultural workforce.

Education: 

  • Completion of an Electrical Apprentice program with a Journeyman Certificate is preferred.
  • High school diploma or GED required.

Licenses and Certifications: 

  • Must have a US State issued Master electrical license.
  • Current certification(s) for medium voltage (15 Kv) power distribution systems is preferred.  Alternatively, must be available to travel to the US for certification training.   
  • Valid US driver’s license required.

Language Requirement: 

  • Must be fluent in speaking, reading and writing English including building diagrams and technical manuals.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills sufficient to effectively communicate with employees, management and the client.

Citizenship:  US Citizenship is required for this position.

Clearance:    Must have an active Secret security clearance.
