Electrical Engineer

We have multiple openings for Electrical Engineers. You will provide engineering design solutions associated with the Laboratory’s electrical infrastructure for new construction, remodeling, and modifications to conventional office and laboratory facilities. These positions are in the Project Management Office (PMO).
 
This position will be filled at either the TSS.1 or TSS.2 level depending on your qualifications. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if you are selected at the higher level.
 
Essential Duties
- Provide engineering analysis and design in support of projects being performed for new facility construction, existing facility remodeling, and modifications to conventional office and laboratory facilities and equipment.
- Provide engineering support to other design team members, by collecting and organizing data, required during the design process.
- Prepare construction drawings and specifications.
- Assist in Building Electrical Authority Having Jurisdiction (BEAHJ) inspections for electrical work performed on projects.
- Perform all assignments in accordance with ES&H, security, and business practice requirements and policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
In Addition at the TSS.2 Level
- Participate in the development of detailed engineering designs and construction packages for new facility construction, existing facility remodeling, and modifications to conventional office and laboratory facilities and equipment.
- Provide engineering solutions to a diverse range of moderate to complex facility electrical issues and/or problems.
- Contribute to the development of system arc-flash assessments and the determination of appropriate in-field personal protective equipment.
 
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a concentration in power or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Fundamental knowledge of concepts, techniques, practices and procedures for completing tasks or projects in facility electrical engineering.
- Ability to apply standard engineering principles, theories, concepts, and techniques.
- Ability to provide effective customer service.
- Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively collaborate in a team environment.
- Sufficient verbal and written communication skills necessary to collaborate effectively in a team environment and present and explain technical information.
- Fundamental knowledge of and experience using AutoCAD to prepare design drawings. Knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
 In Addition at the TSS.2 Level
- Registered as a Professional Electrical Engineer in the State of California or reciprocity from another state within 24 months.
- Experience applying independent judgment to develop approaches to solutions.
- Comprehensive knowledge of concepts, techniques, practices and procedures for completing tasks or projects in facility electrical engineering.
 
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and the California Electrical Code.
- Knowledge of and experience in design work with the application of electrical power distribution systems such as transformers, panelboards, motor control centers, lighting, and grounding systems.
- Ability to use electrical design and arc flash hazard calculation software (SKM Power Tools preferred).

Pre-Employment Drug Test:  External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.  This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.

Security Clearance:  This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.

If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing.  Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.  If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.
