Job Description
SAIC has an opportunity for an Electrical/Computer System Engineer to join a team which is developing automated test equipment for U.S. Navy applications shipboard and ashore.  This position is contingent upon contract award and will be located in Crane, IN.
 
The candidate will join a team that supports the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division, Radar Technologies branches, with potential additional work in several Electronic Warfare branches, and others. The work will include the following tasks:
 
  • Analysis of systems and components to be placed under test
  • Development of test requirements
  • Design development of test fixtures, system and component interfaces, test set processors and instrumentation
  • Selection of appropriate sensors and instruments
  • Design and development of test methods and procedures
  • Design and development of automated test processes
  • Preparation for verification tests
  • Preparation for Systems Engineering Technical Reviews
  • Design synthesis of new systems
  • Maintenance, functional upgrade, and technology insertion of legacy test set and test station systems
  • Develop instrument interfaces and automated test processes
     
  • Support the Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane Division in a wide array of engineering services tasks required by various Electronic Warfare and Radar Technologies contracts.
  • Develops specifications for selecting components and equipment to use.
  • Applies extensive technical expertise and has full knowledge of other related disciplines. Receives assignments in the form of objectives and establishes goals to meet objectives.
  • The candidate sought will be able to apply the systems engineering approach to specific problems or to design and development projects ranging from component to system of systems levels.
  •  KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS AND ABILITY: Frequent use and application of technical standards, principles, theories, concepts and techniques. Receives assignments in the form of objectives and establishes goals to meet outlined objectives.  Work is reviewed by supervisor/lead to measure meeting objectives.  Directs established guidelines, procedures and policies.
  • PROBLEM COMPLEXITY: Provides solutions to a variety of technical problems of moderate scope and complexity where analysis of situations or data requires a review of the variety of factors.  
  • FREEDOM TO ACT: Works under general direction on routine work.   May receive detailed instructions on new projects or assignments.  Follows established procedures.  Work is reviewed for soundness of technical judgment, overall adequacy and accuracy. Exercises judgement within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.
  •  IMPACT: Contributes to completion of milestones associated with specific projects.  Failure to achieve results or erroneous decisions or recommendations may cause delays in program schedules and may result in allocation of additional resources. LIASON: Primarily internal company contacts.  Infrequent inter-organizational and outside customer contacts on routine matters.

Qualifications

Qualifications
   EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 
  • Bachelors in Electrical Engineering or Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering with three (3) years or more experience.  
 
Essential skills are:
  • Technical Writing, especially of system functional, performance requirements, and component specifications
  • Programming ability in LabVIEW, MATLAB is of primary importance
  • Programming skills in C, Python, and related applications for scientific and process control applications is desirable
  • Ability to work with other SAIC engineers and technicians and with government technical personnel in the formation of test system requirements, development of test methodologies and system architectures
  • Ability to develop instrument interfaces and automated test processes primarily in national Instruments LabVIEW
  • Ability to program for instrument interface and automation in Mathworks MATLAB
  • Have knowledge and experience with automated testing, or the principles that drive this essential segment of Naval Systems maintenance and readiness support
  • Experience developing, modifying and updating procedures for qualifying systems and components.
  • Provide engineering support in the selection, evaluation, and qualification of replacement technologies and materials of items. 
  • Provide input into market analysis, design, materials selections, performance characteristics, conformance testing, and quality requirements      
 
    CLEARANCE REQUIREMENT:
  • Must be able to obtain a Secret Security clearance
  • Prefer a candidate that already possesses a Secret Security clearance
