Director II-Program Management

Position Description:
The General Manager is responsible for all site operations for the Vision Systems Goleta, CA and Lompoc, CA sites with combined internal and external sales of approximately $300M, and performance results for over 750 employees. This role is responsible for strategic planning to achieve business growth and drive profitability in core business areas. This individual will have primary responsibility for integrating Space and Airborne System’s (SAS) vision, strategy, meeting the business financial goals, and assessing capability gaps. The leader will be required to have exceptional teaming skills to create alignment and grow the business in a complex and competitive market environment. To be successful, the General Manager must also effectively align to internal customers and external markets to achieve all performance goals cost-effectively.

The ideal candidate will be a proactive site leader able to look beyond today’s paradigm to see innovative opportunities for improving performance and growing the core business areas.
Through a strategic vision, the leader will align technology and new business investments to enhance the company’s competitive position. The leader should be able to work in a complex environment to develop and establish business-wide strategies and practices. Background should include executing programs, effective partnering and leveraging relationships with customers, creating business models to improve business position, capturing substantial market share, and achieving expansion. Ideally, this person will be technologically conversant in electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) capabilities and can quickly command respect and credibility from both internal business units and external customers.

The General Manager develops broad objectives and strategic plans for the development and marketing of products and services offered to the customer community. The GM will lead all facets of the business area providing customers with technologies, solutions, and services across a wide range of missions. This leader manages strategic customer relationships, identifies key pursuit pipeline, partners with SAS Product Line leaders and others in developing business strategies and pursuits; participates in development of major business unit proposals and execution of capture plans.

The General Manager will serve as an insightful thinker in terms of understanding the competitive market environment and identifying the best position for the business to support vision systems initiatives. This individual will develop and maintain close customer (internal and external to the company) relationships, resolve customer issues, and provide direct support for: developing pursuit pipeline, identifying and validating opportunities, understanding customer requirements, conducting market studies and forecasting reviews as requested, developing competitive offers, and participating in win/loss analysis after campaign.

Required Skills and Experience:
A proactive leader with a strong operational history of growing a high technology business while also managing and executing multiple complex programs.
  • 16+ years of total experience required, to include 10 years strategic planning and managing business entities, 5 years of P&L experience and 5 years experience developing highly technical solutions
  • Proven record of successfully growing a business with expanded customers and markets, including successful program execution
  • Familiar with electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) technology
  • Understanding of Focal Plane Array (FPA) design and manufacturing
  • Demonstrated experience winning multi-million dollar contracts
  • Ability to determine, through experience and professional insight, good business opportunities
  • Experience building, developing and managing customer relationships to seek out and identify new business opportunities
  • Proactive and motivating leadership style with strong emphasis on employee engagement and communication
  • Proven track record on engaging and solving internal customer and employee challenges to create a win-win environment
  • Knowledge of System Development processes and Capture and Pursuit processes
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a matrixed organization
  • Demonstrated networking capabilities among various EO/IR communities, e.g. acquisition officials/leads in the Department of Defense, DARPA, Space, Homeland Security, and other government agencies
  • US Citizenship is required as an active DoD Secret Clearance with investigation with in 5 years is required.

Desired Skills and Experience:
  • Strong relationships with external and internal customers
  • Experience working with DOD, DARPA, ARPA, IARPA, DHS, and other government agencies
  • Deep knowledge of electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) technology
  • BS/BA in Engineering, Business Management or other related field; MA or MBA is highly desirable
