Director II – Financial Planning & Analysis

The Director II of SAS Financial Planning & Analysis position will be responsible for the strategic leadership and oversight of the financial planning and analysis (FP&A), rates and budgets functions as well as the Space and Airborne Systems (SAS) Operations Finance organization. This will include leading a department of ~140 professionals across multiple SAS sites. Responsible for the SAS AOP, as well as for the annual and 5-year strategic financial planning outlook; Provide management with actionable insight through proactive, thorough analysis and recommendations, driving business results to maximum value; Provide key recommendations to senior management based on analysis which drives value; Execution of operations finance with estimated revenues (internal & external) of ~$800M as well as operational activities to include facility, real estate and capital planning. Specific areas of responsibility include but are not limited to the following:

  • Responsible for the SAS AOP, as well as for the annual and 5-year strategic financial planning outlook
  • Leadership of the financial management operating system; Short Range Outlook, Financial forecasting process (alignment with EAC/EV processes)
  • Identify problems early and develop corrective action plans including risks, opportunities and implementation plans
  • Partner with the Corporate FP&A organization to provide analysis support
  • Managing the organizational talent through management development plans and succession plans; partnering with other Finance leaders to identify and develop future leaders; drive rotations across finance to build bench strength across the organization. This includes partnering with other functions and businesses to achieve such results.
  • Responsible for the preparation of financials plans, monitoring the implementation of budget policy, preparing regular and special purpose reports, maintaining historical records, analyzing trends, establishing cost rates and forecasts.
  • Responsible for interpreting budgetary policies and procedures and prepares comparative evaluation of actual costs against budget and determines rationale for variances
  • Ensures compliance with corporate policies including Sarbanes/Oxley and EVMS/EAC requirements
  • Responsible for directing activities to meet critical deadlines with accurate and auditable data
  • Establishes, interprets, and recommends modifications to operating policies and procedures that improve the business financial position.


Required Skills:

  • 16+ years of experience in financial areas to include budgets & rates, financial planning and reporting and/or accounting
  • Broad business-oriented thinker with a global perspective, who is capable of delivering world-class results against aggressive goals and stretch targets
  • Oral and written communication skills to include executive level interaction
  • Demonstrated ability to be proactive, creative, and innovative and use critical and strategic thinking
  • A proven track record of process improvement and experience with financial systems and process change initiatives
  • Organizational and leadership skills with the ability to attract, retain and develop exceptional talent to drive large teams to success
  • Interpersonal skills and teamwork; someone who can cope with complexity and change
  • Sound analytical, problem identification, problem-solving, risk and opportunity skills
  • Demonstrated ability to influence others and achieve results
  • Experience with government contracting & front end of the business / competitive proposals
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate and build rapport with all organizations and functions
  • Demonstrated sense of urgency and ability to meet multiple commitments as expected
  • At least 16 years’ experience with EACs and/or Earned Value Management


Required Education (including Major):

  • Bachelor's in Business, Finance, Accounting or related field. An advanced degree is preferred
