Dimensional Inspection Foreman/Planner

We have an opening for a Dimensional Inspection Foreman/ Planner  to work in the Dimensional Inspection Group. You will provide journey level mechanical inspection support including responsibility for maintaining ISO compliance for efficient workflow, safety, and security within the work center and maintaining an organized environment within the planning office.  You will also serve as a primary customer contact within the group, maintaining close interactions with Materials Engineering Division (MED) shop supervisors and planners for workload leveling, and providing evaluative performance input to the Dimensional Inspection Supervisor for direct reports. This role will require working with classified, radioactive and toxic materials at times.  This position is in the Materials Engineering Division (MED), within the Engineering Directorate.

Essential Duties
- Collaborate with customers, engineering and fabrication personnel to determine specific job requirements and limitations.
- Identify, analyze and provide solutions or alternate approaches to moderately complex measurement problems using individual creativity and judgment.
- Order required materials and tooling through LLNL or off-site sources and establish job cost and delivery estimates; initiate work order and job routing information.
- Schedule and issue job assignments to make efficient use of shop personnel and resources, maintaining close interaction with shop supervision regarding work flow, customer relations, job progress, and facility or equipment issues.
- Set up and operate high-precision measuring equipment and instruments to inspect parts and assemblies, providing general technical guidance on the shop floor to assure that productivity and quality standards are maintained.
- Design and fabricate moderately complex fixtures and jigs to be used during a variety of inspection processes.
- Handle and manage classified documents, parts and related security systems and procedures.
- Monitor compliance with established ES&H regulations and procedures, assuring that all work assignments are performed with due consideration to safety and environmental impacts.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

In Addition at the 984.3 Level
- Provide an advanced level of technical leadership and direction within the shop and assist supervision by performing management or specialized tasks. 
- Independently identify, analyze and provide solutions or alternate approaches for complex design, fabrication, and measurement issues.

Qualifications
- Associate' degree in mechanical, industrial, or manufacturing tooling technology or equivalent, with intermediate to advanced journey level experience or a combination of completion of an apprenticeship program in a machinist/ inspector trade and previous relevant experience.
- Intermediate to advanced level technical skills, knowledge, and abilities in inspection related procedures, techniques, and standards (Quality Assurance and ASME Y14.5 Dimensioning and tolerancing).
- Experience with workforce planning  in a shop environment including procuring materials, working with third party vendors as needed, and estimating job cost and completion timeframes.
- Intermediate knowledge of inspection and metrology related methods, QA standards, tools, and equipment including computerized controllers and related technology.
- Intermediate knowledge and experience in shop-related mathematics, blueprint reading, and design and fabrication of moderately complex components used in inspection.
- Knowledge of safety awareness and safe working practices.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks at the same time.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work independently and collaborate with a technical team in close cooperation with inspection, facility support, and engineering personnel.

In Addition at the 984.3 Level
- Advanced journey level experience in a machinist/ inspector trade including technical leadership
- Advanced level knowledge of blueprint reading, and design and fabrication of complex components used in inspection.
- Ability to provide solutions for complex, high precision measurement issues.

Desired Qualifications
- Experience with the COSMOS job entry system.
- Experience with handling classified documents and parts.

Pre-Employment Drug Test:  External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.  This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.

Security Clearance:  This position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at time of hire.
