Department Manager – Antenna Core Products

Job Description:

The Hardware Engineering Center (HWEC) is seeking an experienced engineering manager, responsible for leading the Antenna Core Products Department based in Dallas, TX. The Manager will lead a multi-disciplinary team of approximately 180 engineering professionals across the Dallas, TX and McKinney, TX sites. The Department Manager provides technical, process and personnel leadership to include antenna subsystems engineering, component design, development and test, factory test sustainment, and antenna range execution. This position is accountable for providing high integrity engineering products/services and continuously developing the department’s technical skills in order to provide the required efficiency, effectiveness, capability and capacity to meet a diverse portfolio of antenna products across numerous business portfolios. The location for this position is at the Dallas, TX site with frequent travel between the Dallas and McKinney sites.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead Department of approximately 180 engineers
  • Direct supervisor to approximately 10 Section Managers and Senior Technical Staff
  • Hardware partner to Program Directors, Chief Engineers, and Advanced Products Center (APC) operations leadership, supplying engineering resources to design, assemble, integrate, test and deliver antenna core products to contractual requirements.
  • Create partnerships to ensure effective product transition to Production. Champion continuous improvement initiatives in design and test automation methods to enhance product yields and lower recurring costs.
  • Provide leadership and application of domain processes and company policies, manage department metrics and implement initiatives for performance improvement.
  • Manage assets and budgets along with department overhead budget, review and approve the engineering department’s bid and proposal estimates.
  • Manage personnel; appropriately size staff and balance department skills, deploy staff to projects and set priorities, ensure excellent project execution, administer employee performance, career development and training.
  • Provide oversight and drive the quality of work products developed by department members.
Required Skills:

  • 12+ years of demonstrated experience as an electrical engineering leader
  • Direct engineering experience with product development and factory support at the factory test level
  • Experience with process application for the engineering product life cycle e.g. Integrated Product Development Processes
  • Strong people and “change agent” leadership skills. Accountability and drive; ability to make decisions, effectively delegate tasks and meet challenging deadlines
  • Experience in supervisory/line management, including technical leadership, performance development and career development
  • Be a “big picture” thinker with strong written and oral communication skills. Have sound judgment and decision making abilities. Able to effectively juggle multiple tasks and priorities, as well as be an advocate for process improvement and a team player able to build strong relationships and effectively partner with others
  • US Citizenship and existing DoD Secret Security clearance is required.

Desired Skills:

  • Direct experience in department / line management of an electrical engineering function at the department level.
  • Familiarity with Raytheon’s engineering, contract and financial processes and systems
  • Understanding of lateral engineering functions; systems, hardware, software, test and quality
  • Knowledgeable of military communication systems; electronic systems and/or component technologies
  • Detailed knowledge of bidding processes and proposal development
  • Working knowledge of EVMS, IMS, & IMP tools for managing programs
  • Domain knowledge in antenna product design and test
  • Active and current access to Special Access Programs
Required Education:
B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Science, or Mathematics.
Prefer to also have a Master's Degree
