Jacobs is seeking a Data Architect for the Alexandria, VA office. We are in search of an effective and innovative individual to join our team, whose goal is to assist the agency to further their strategic mission and modernize its platform and services, while providing excellent levels of customer service.

As a Data Architect with Jacobs, you will be responsible for designing and modernizing the data structures for the solutions delivered across the Enterprise. You will create and maintain conceptual, logical and physical data models, in support of the agency development efforts. You will plan for and implement steps towards a long-term data strategy. Duties will include:
  • Interface on a regular basis with Business Owners, Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), other agency components to design, create, deploy and manage data solutions in accordance with the client’s strategic enterprise data architecture.
  • Provide a high level of customer service through comprehensive communication.
  • Develop, maintain and evangelize data architecture guiding principles, policies, best practices, reference architecture and standards
  • Leader of data transformation efforts from legacy to new and alternative technologies
  • Provide thought leadership for IT’s data security, data integration, data services and API efforts
  • Collaborate with various Business, Operations, Applications and Data and Analytics groups to define, establish and run a process that ensures adherence to enterprise data standards and architecture principles
  • Advocate for, and champion, efforts to close gaps between as-is and to-be architectures
  • Monitor compliance of development work against established standards and principles and work to resolve issues through appropriate formal and informal channels
  • Work closely with other architects and IT managers and developers so that they understand and support data architecture priorities
  • Review and analyze existing systems and make recommendations for improvements
  • Provide general guidance to teams on data architecture topics
  • Represent data architecture concerns in design, implementation and deployment reviews
  • Analyze proposed business solutions to understand and document data requirements and partner with solution architects to define required data architecture elements

  • US Citizens only – must be able to obtain a public trust clearance
  • BS degree in a related scientific or engineeringdiscipline from an accredited college or university and eight (8) to twelve(12) years of progressive experience, or an MS degree in a related scientificor engineering discipline, and seven (7) to ten (10) years of progressiveexperience, or a Ph.D. degree in a related scientific or engineeringdiscipline, and two (2) to five (5) years of progressive experience.

  • Minimum Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field and minimum 4 years’ experience; or equivalent related work experience with 5 years of direct experience.
    • Excellent analytical skills, and the ability to define and maintain target data architectures and master data management strategies in alignment with business and technology objectives
    • Experience building component based XML or JSON structures to support a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA). Knowledge of UML modeling standards, XML transformation, XML validation schemas (XSD), and validation tools such as (but not limited to) XSLT and Schematron.
    • Experience with ICAO, AIXM Information/data. Experience with information architecture concepts (Common Information Model/Canonical Data Model, Enterprise Information Management, Metadata Management, Data Governance, and Master Data Management).
  • Desired Qualifications:
    • 4+ years of related experience in complex data environments
    • 4+ years of experience in strong SQL background
    • 4+ years of hands on experience in database and SQL performance tuning
    • Excellent understanding of relational database concepts, impact of design on performance
    • Experience with Design and implementation of multi-tier enterprise data warehouse solutions using the latest technologies including no sql databases and cloud technologies.
    • Team Player with proven leadership, communication, organizational, and strong interpersonal skills.
    • Strong experience with architecture best practices and data warehousing concepts
    • Experience working with BI tools for data visualization like Tableau

Most work will be done at a desk or computer.

Work Environment:
General Office environment. The work environment is fast-paced and sometimes involves extreme deadline pressures. The nature of the work requires a high degree of teamwork and cooperation with other members of the staff as well as individuals across the Company and Customers.

Equipment & Machines:
General office equipment including PC/laptop, Fax, Copiers, Shredder, Printers, Telephone, and other miscellaneous office equipment.

Attendance is critical at all times. Must be able to work a 40-hour workweek, normally Monday through Friday. However, times and days may vary depending on business requirements. Needs to be available to work overtime during critical peaks and be available to meet last minute requests for overtime should the situation occur.
