Cyber Field Support Engineer, Instructor Course Developer

Job Description

The Cyber Field Support Engineer will perform computer network exploitation development, embedded reverse engineering, field engineer support, vulnerability research, and applications development for software and embedded systems with a focus on OCO (Offensive Cyber Operations) and DCO (Defensive Cyber Operations) activities.  Additionally, this position offers the unique opportunity to support the development and instruction for a mission-specific and competency-based training program and curriculum for a national security customer. The candidate will not only support the design and development of training initiatives but will serve as instructor for teaching customer-specific applications and tools as well as technical components specific to the cyber domain.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform hands-on technical analysis and execute engineering studies/initiatives to make products or recommendations for improvement across the solutions problem space
  • Work in a dynamic environment addressing cutting-edge wireless and wired networking challenges and be able to approach new problems where a solution does not already exist
  • Apply and substantiate engineering judgment and make recommendations on Sponsor’s development concepts and products
  • Assists in assessing readiness for cyberspace forces for conducting cyberspace operations
  • Provide Field Engineering Support
  • Develop standard operating procedures and best practices in support of training current and new capabilities associated with customers CONOPS
  • Develop and provide technical product training to customers
  • Serve as SME on all equipment and procedures associated with customers CONOPS
  • Be responsible for providing guidance to intelligence analysts for all aspects of information gathering to include national level analysis, technical exploitation, collection, general research, threat assessments and intelligence product production
  • Travel to other LGS Locations or Customer Sites will range from 30% to 40% of the time
  • OCONUS travel to hazardous areas
  • Provide flexible daily office hours as needed to support customers and systems in the field
     

Minimum Qualifications:

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Possess an active ISC2 CISSP certification or possess a CompTIA Security+ certification (Or comparable DoD 8570 IAM Level 2 certification) and willing to obtain a CISSP certification to meet DoD 8570 IAM Level 3 requirement
  • Experience using HW and SW tools is required to develop protocol training programs and provide maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, calibration and upgrades of wireless communication product.
  • Experience with web frameworks, TCP/IP, VPNs/tunneling, andlayer 7 protocols (I.E. HTTP, DNS, and FTP)
  • Direct experience with systems supporting wireless protocols (GSM, CDMA, UMTS, LTE, WiMax, GPRS, Rel 99, HSPA, HSDPA, and WiFi) is required
  • Must have advanced targeting skills and a thorough understanding of the operational cycle.  Deep understanding of the data, tools and techniques used for each phase of targeting
  • Must have direct experience targeting networks or individuals within networks and identifying vulnerabilities for exploitation
  • Experience with tools and test equipment used to triage, repair, and modify wireless and cyber equipment hardware
  • Strong flexibility to adapt in a dynamic environment with frequently changing opportunities
  • Strong oral and written communication skills to include experience creating customer presentations
  • Must be a team player and work well with other contractors and vendor partners under adverse conditions
  • Must have strong trouble-shooting technical skills and be able to clearly articulate issues to design engineers; capturing troubles and writing trouble reports is required
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision in a small team environment, lead others and work with project managers and external suppliers to ensure project deliverables are consistently met on schedule
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft software applications and other software applications as required
  • Decisive, yet able to recognize the need to seek out counsel from peers and leadership for critical decisions

 

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical degree and 6-8 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education, skills and experience.

  • Technical leadership and organizational skills to manage multiple projects.
  • A creative imagination capable of collaborating and promoting new products in an exciting but practical way.
  • Drive for innovation, strong problem solving skills, adaptable, proactive and willing to take ownership.
  • Cisco Certified Network Administrator (CCNA)
  • Certified Wireless Technical Specialist (CWTS)
  • Knowledge of common software, platforms, systems to include:
  • C,C++, Linux
  • Training Certification from the American Management Association in Instruction Design for Trainers or Train the Trainer
  • Training Certification from the American society for training and development in the ATD Master Trainer Program or ATS Master Instruction Design
  • OS/CE certificate for Windows, Windows Server, and / or Unix highly desired
  • The International Information System Security Certification Consortium (ISC)2 Certified Information System Security Professional (CISSP) desired.
  • The preferred candidate would have the ISC2 CISSP - Information Systems Security Engineering Professional (CISSP-ISSEP) certification
  • Close Access Network Operator (CANO)
