Cyber Engineer - Summer Intern 2020

Job Description

What You’ll Get to Do:

As a Cyber Engineer Intern, you will partner with our Cyber Leaders to gain hands on experience within the industry.  You will be focused on themes that will require you to “think like an adversary” as both an external actor and an insider risk. You will explore various topics such as: red teaming/penetration testing, creating capture the flag challenges, protocol reverse engineering, understanding adversarial TTPs, studying embedded devices and exploit prevention technologies, and more!

As an intern, you will be passionate about the cyber security industry. You will be driven to become a subject matter expert in one or many disciplines you learn over the Summer; along with being able to work with others to help mentor and supplement their knowledge in a humble way.


You’ll Bring These Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in one of the following majors: Computer Science, Computer Engineer, Electrical Engineer, or Cybersecurity
  • Maintaining at least a 3.0 GPA in major coursework. Exceptions will be made on a case by case basis depending on skills and passion.
  • Development experience in one or more of the following programming languages:  Python, Java, C/C++, or Assembly
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI with Poly government clearance
  • Minimum program commitment of 12 weeks (starting in mid to late May 2020)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility and ability to work in a team environment



These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have (at least 2):

  • Has written at least one program that talked over the network
  • Knowledge of what virtualization is and how it can be leveraged for building training labs
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for writing, reviewing and discussing highly technical documentation
  • A computer enthusiast who pursues technical knowledge outside of the work day
  • Has built their own computer
  • Is proficient with the following software packages: Microsoft Office, Microsoft Windows, Linux, Slack, git/GitHub/GitLab, OpenVPN, VMware/VirtualBox/Xen/XenServer or other hypervisor
  • Knowledge of networking fundamentals such as the difference between TCP and UDP, what IPv6 is and how it differs from IPv4, what function the ARP protocol serves, etc.
  • Understands what a proxy server does (forward and/or reverse)
  • Familiar with Scrum or Agile project management styles
  • Has participated in at least one Capture the Flag (CTF) or Hack-a-thon events
