General Summary

 

Responsible for performing system management and system administration functions on a variety of Mission Command Information Systems (MCIS) and related equipment employed at the Mission Training Complex (MTC). In support of individual digital command training and exercise support for collective events, as well as providing support in the integration of Command & Control (C2) systems with site simulation and stimulation systems. These functions include the installation, maintenance, and control of various C2 systems, applications for maneuver, logistics, intelligence, and fire support as well as the underlying computer operating systems. Likewise, designs, configures, documents, tests, and modifies computer applications and networks for use in an integrated battle command systems training environment. Schedule, initiate, and troubleshoot Video Telephone Conferences (VTC). Maintain VTC suites and the equipment that resides in them.

 

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

 

50% Setup, configure, integrate and maintain a mix of, computer servers, battle command C2 systems, and supporting information systems in accordance with user specified technical architectures, within reconfigurable battalion and brigade tactical operation center training environments, to support the conduct of digital battle command staff training and exercises. Ensure that systems conform to baseline specifications as dictated by branch standard operation procedures and guidelines. Designs, develops and documents Networks, to include Local Area Networks Virtual Networks, and subnet strategies. Analyzes, tests, and modifies computer systems, networking protocols and software programs to optimize systems performance in training operations.

 

20% Analyze, evaluate and modify software applications and hardware on the systems to adhere to the training specifications of end users and ensure that copies of said systems' software and hardware are up-to-date. Also, test new software and hardware as they are updated and released, identify flaws in system configuration, identify software inconsistencies, and implement corrections. Serve as a technical subject matter expert and system administrator for designated MCIS, C2 system clients to include the Tactical Mission Command (TMC) Server, Global Command and Control System Army, Air and Missile Defense Work Station, Command Post of the Future Joint Capabilities Release and Tactical Air Integration System as well other existing and emerging C2 platforms supporting the maneuver, logistics, fires and intelligence army war fighter functional areas.

 

10% Schedules, initiate, and troubleshoot VTCs. Maintain the VTC suites and the equipment that resides with them.  Ensure the VTC do not conflict with other scheduled VTCs.  Ensure audio and video are working properly and ensure the system is tested prior to the start of all VTCS.

 

10% Serve as a technical subject matter expert and system administrator for designated computer servers and battle command C2 supporting information systems to include the Microsoft Exchange Server, Microsoft SQL Server, SharePoint Portal Server, Adobe Connect Server and other Servers as necessary.

 

5% Provide technical support in the daily operations of training at the MTC. Develop and maintain system documentation on C2 systems, including procedures for installation, configuration, testing and system management. This also includes presentation and training materials for system administrators. Assist in site wide execution of integrated operational testing between simulation and battle command systems by analyzing information throughput, data flows, documenting system settings, and troubleshooting system faults. Provide mentorship, guidance, training and work leadership to system analysts with less experience and understanding of specific functions, battle command C2 systems, ISM systems or operating systems.  Consult with system integrators, system administrators, and computer specialists from other staff sections and organizations to design optimized system architectures in support of training.

 

5% Administer security procedures via deployment of Anti-Virus Software and Firewall technology to all training approved systems. Demonstrate awareness of procedures for handling US Army classified software data and systems during classified training events in a controlled setting. Analyze, evaluate and modify software applications and hardware on the systems to adhere to the training specifications of end users and ensure that copies of said systems' software and hardware are up-to-date. Also, test new software and hardware as they are updated and released, identify flaws in system configuration, identify software inconsistencies, and implement corrections.

 

System Administrator. The System Administrator (SA is a person employed to maintain and operate a computer system and/or network.  SA’s are members of the IA Workforce and have been deemed to have [1]crucial responsibilities.  The duties of a SA are wide-ranging and vary widely from PEO system to system.  SA’s are charged with installing, supporting, and maintaining servers or other computer systems, and planning for and responding to service outages and other problems.  Other duties include scripting or light programming, project management for systems-related projects, supervising or training computer operators/trainees, and being the consultant for computer problems beyond the knowledge of the technical support staff. To perform his or her job, a system administrator must blend technical skills and requirements of the applicable IA regulations. Some other duties included in AR 25-2 are:

  1. Enforce system access, operation, maintenance, and disposition requirements.
  2. Ensure that personnel meet required security investigation, clearance, authorization, mission requirement, and supervisory approval before granting access to the IS.
  3. Report security violations and incidents to the servicing RCERT in accordance with Section VIII, Incident and Intrusion Reporting.
  4. Conduct required IAVM scanning and vulnerability assessments with approved software as authorized by their IAM/IASO. SAs/NAs are not limited to only IAVM scanning, but should be conducting comprehensive network assessments of their networks as authorized.
  5. Ensure CM includes all pertinent patches and fixes by routinely reviewing vendor sites, bulletins, and notifications and proactively updating systems with fixes, patches, definitions, and service packs with IAM or IAPM approval.

Education

Education and Experience Requirement

Contract Requirement:

Bachelor’s Degree in a related technical or scientific discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work experience.

Maintain DoD 8570.01-m Certifications for IAT level II (Security+).

 

GDIT Requirement:

Associates Degree in a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications or training, or work experience.

Qualifications

5-8 years of directly related experience supporting network operations.

 

Secret clearance required.
