Sr. Principal Engineer Systems – Implementation Architect

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) was selected by the U.S. Missile Defense Agency to participate on the Missile Defense National Team. This team was chartered to develop a Ballistic Missile Defense System for the United States. Missile Defense and Protective Systems (MDPS) serves as Northrop Grumman Mission Systems' focal point for all activities associated with missile defense, including Command, Control, Battle Management and Communications (C2BMC), simulation & modeling, systems engineering, and target discrimination.

We are seeking highly qualified candidates for a System Architect/Engineer. This role is an individual contributor working design and development of operational and training system capabilities for the C2BMC system in the Ballistic Missile Defense System. The selected candidate will be responsible for working with the Architecture Review Board (ARB); the Hardware Site Engineering Control Board (HSECB); and assigned engineering staff from all functional areas to support hardware and software selection, and to compile, maintain, and coordinate Bill of Material (BOM) changes with Task Order Management and Customer Representatives. The architect will ensure specification of common hardware and software for use in all Task Orders across the program to the greatest extent possible. The architect will support preparation of BOM for proposal pricing as well as ongoing hardware and software evaluation to support EOS/EOL and evolution roadmap planning. Specific detailed duties include:

  • Coordinating assigned Material Procurement Requests (MPRs) among the TOs, the Program Office, the Material Planner, and LM Procurement.
  • Obtains vendor estimates of Parts List in conjunction with SCE.
  • Coordinating purchases to greatest Program cost advantage.
  • Working with LM Procurement to ensure materials are ordered and received on a timely basis.
  • Ensure that an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) or OEM authorized supplier is used for electronic parts. If an OEM or OEM supplier cannot be located, the SE Material Analyst will document that in the Material Records (MR)/MPR and identify what suppliers were contracted.
  • Notify the Material Planners, via email, that the part could not be found from an OEM or an OEM authorized supplier.
  • Working with Quality, SCE, AAT and TO Leadership to complete counterfeit risk mitigation activities (Procure-3-002 form) when a purchase must be made through a non-Authorized Supply Source.
  • Document MODs and update Proposal BOM based on Tech Evaluations/Negotiations Results (Redlined CBOM/Proposal BOM and Updated Parts List; Architecture Updates; Check Stock for Parts); and Updated Parts List generated
  • Manage the BOM and control changes IAW program configuration control procedures, monitor new material requirements and obtain Contracting Officer approval prior to procuring any item not identified in its initial baseline and identify when changes are required to BOM line items to meet baseline program requirements

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited institution with 9 or more years of professional experience
  • Active Secret clearance required to start
  • Experience and expertise in systems architecting, architecture models and system-of-systems definition
  • Familiarity with the C2BMC system and the missile defense domain

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited institution with 7 or more years of professional experience.
  • Experience in ballistic missile defense or air defense operations is highly desired
  • Experience with BMDS systems (e.g. GMD, Aegis, Patriot, GCCS, STARS, PDS-M, THAAD) is desirable
  • Familiarity with training methods and systems, training simulators, and in particular missile defense training systems desirable
  • Familiarity other Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD) systems is desirable
  • Familiarity with Information Assurance requirements is also desirable
