AV System Design Engineer

Sentar is currently seeking an AV System Design Engineer in support of Scott AFB, IL.  This position is part of our dynamic Video Conferencing (VTC) and Audiovisual support team providing all facets of customer service including, designing, installing, programming, maintaining, operating, monitoring, and troubleshooting of video conference and briefing support facilities, as well as general audiovisual systems throughout USTRANSCOM, SDDC, and the JECC.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Support ~170 AV/VTC studios, conference rooms, digital signage, desktop VTCs, operations centers across Scott AFB, IL, ~14 NIPRNet/SIPRNet studios are located at Norfolk, VA and 1 SIPRNet VTC suite located Washington, D.C
  • Coordinate and conduct site surveys on installations and changes of existing or proposed audio visual systems.
  • Create A/V control, video, audio, equipment and room elevations, and networking schematics as part of Audiovisual System Design Packages using Microsoft Visio and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Develop System Design Packages outlining all changes and including timelines, equipment lists and cost estimates using Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat. Design packages are submitted to the Govt. for review and approval and must be accurate, clear, and completed in a professional manner.
  • Update Audiovisual System Design Package schematics to “As-Built” drawings after completed system installation.
  • Update A/V schematics after minor changes or updates as they occur.
  • Generate List of Materials and Purchase Requests for the ordering of A/V equipment and materials upon Govt. approval of System Design Packages.
  • Develop project timelines for each project in Microsoft Project. Update the project timelines as required to reflect real-world schedules.
  • Track project progress from design through parts ordering and receiving, programming RFQ development and award, project start and completion, and submission of deliverables for each project.
  • Participate in design review and change process discussions with Government program officials and customers.
  • Develop Requests for Quotes (RFQ) for control system programming, DSP configuration and programming, and the creation and updating of conference room user operation manuals and quick start guides.
  • Track receipt of, and inventory, ordered parts. Reconcile received parts against Purchase Requests.
  • Track and document actual pricing on Purchase Orders against estimated pricing on Purchase Requests.
  • Generate and submit receiving reports for Govt. approval. Submit completed receiving reports.
  • Consolidate drawings, inventories, programming, and documentation for each project and submit contract required Government deliverables.
  • Coordinate and schedule audiovisual installations with project stakeholders.
  • Identify and coordinate facilities requirements for each project, power and HVAC, with the TRANSCOM Facilities Manager.
  • Schedule installation and maintenance efforts for the audiovisual installation and maintenance technicians.
  • Consolidate the engineering, installation and maintenance team’s activities into a weekly activity report (WAR) each week.
  • Input user-provided requirements data into the Remedy ITSM tool as required.
  • Coordinate with the government Spectrum CATV point of contact for hardware replacements and Spectrum services for system outages.

 

 

 


 

  • This position requires a Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of experience or a total of 9 years of related experience.
  • Must have active Secret level DoD Security Clearance.
  • Avixa (Infocomm) CTS-D Certification
  • Microsoft Visio training is a plus.
  • Candidate must be able to accommodate a flexible and varied work schedule to include early mornings, evenings, nights, and weekends.
  • Working knowledge and proficiency with Visio for the development of 2D and 3D drawings for system schematics and mechanical layouts of equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with client in order to assist with the design and implementation of audio visual systems.
  • Knowledge and proficiency with Clear One, Bi-Amp, and other digital signal processors layout and configuration.
  • Knowledge and proficiency with sound system acoustics with regard to microphone and speaker requirements and placement in sound system environments
  • Knowledge and proficiency with A/V products in particular Creston and Extron products.
  • Working knowledge and proficiency with lighting system design for audiovisual and video conferencing systems.
  • Candidate must have a thorough understanding and working knowledge of testing, analyses and corrective action on systems, networks, hardware and software in a Professional Audio/Video environment
  • Candidate must know and understand all wire and connector types on all AV related cable, both copper and fiber.
  • Candidate must have be able to provide on-call support as requested with a two (2) hour response time – this may be extended to 24x7 during real-world events, contingencies, exercises, or as required by USTRANSCOM.

Technical Skills (Must have):

  • Significant experience developing audiovisual and VTC system designs, drawings, documentation, and schematics in complex multi-security level environments.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office with specialization in Microsoft Visio, Word, Excel, and MS Project.

Technical Skills (Preferred):

  • Experience with audiovisual and VTC systems in both ISDN and IP based environments.
