ATCALS Technician (Various Locations)

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Thedesignee shall be qualified to install, sustain, troubleshoot, and repairstandard ground radarand airfield systems and equipment platforms to include: air traffic control,weather, ground aircraftcontrol and warning radar systems; air traffic control radio; meteorologicaland navigational aid systems.
  • Resolvesinstallation, repair, and modification problems associated with NAVAIDSequipment.
  • Employsline-of-sight and tropospheric scatter techniques.
  • Conducts tests to restoreand maintain systems.
  • Uses layout drawings, schematics, and pictorial diagrams to solve maintenanceproblems and ensureequipment is properly positioned.
  • Analyzes construction and operatingcharacteristics of equipmentto determine source of malfunction.
  • Performs intricate alignment andcalibration procedures toensure maximum operating efficiency.
  • Reviewsand ensures compliance with maintenance management publications and procedures.
  • Enforcessafety standards for system maintenance activities.
  • Checks installed and repairedcomponents forcompliance with technical publications.
  • Maintains inspection and maintenancerecords.
  • Posts entrieson maintenance and inspection records.
  • Records meter readings and otherpertinent data in equipmentlogs.
  • Completes maintenance data collection forms.
  • Requisitions, accounts for,and turns in suppliesand material.
  • Thedesignee shall maintain systems are such as DME, ILS, MMLS, MPN-23, UPS,RCSU-2238, TACAN,TRN-44, VOR, RSI/RCI or equivalent monitoring equipment, FMQ-19, FMQ-23, Micro-EARTS,MSCT, NRTD, STARS, STRAP, TDX-2000, MARK IVB, NEXION, Terminal Advisory System(TAS), GPN-22 (PAR), GPN-27(or 20), MPN-25, UPX-37 CM-200, CM-300, GRC-171& 211, GRR-23/24,PCAS, GRT-21/22, ETVS, Liberty Star, PL-2000DT, PRC-117, RT-1319, TRC-176, URC-200,ATIS, DVRS, TTRS, but not be limited to those listed in Table 6.1. Suites of Systems and Support Equipment.


  • HighSchool diploma or GED.
  • Relevant Associate’s degree preferred.
  • Formalelectronics trainingsuch as: military technical training school, vocational college, and/or a four(4) year electronics apprenticeprogram with experience in electronics equipment the technician will maintain.


  • LevelI tech – 4 years of practical experience with equipment the technician willmaintain and oversee (recentNAVAIDS experience highly desired).
