Summary:
TheArabicToponymist (Geospatial Linguist),Apprentice will analyze and conflate information associated with featuredata listed in the Geographic Names Database (GNDB) while working closely withIntelligence Community (IC) geographic names experts.
Duties andResponsibilities:
- Useagency guidance and policies to respond to questions concerning the proper andcorrect usage of names, various Romanization systems, and the treatment ofdescriptive information on standard products. These services will use theGeographic Names Processing Systems (GNPS), charts, imagery and geospatialtools to refine names information for use in all types of products and torespond to use question via the Ad Hoc Query process.
- Preparefiles and maps for work, accurately entering data to maintain and update theGNDB, including batching the completed work into the GNDB.
- Scanand geo-reference hardcopy maps, research, and order geospatial data sourcesand commercial imagery to use as reference sources. Georeferenced maps andimagery must be conflated with the GNDB.
- Interpretand apply national and international policies governing the treatment of andgeneral guidelines emanating from the US Board on Geographic Names (US BGN),the Department of State (DoS), the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO),and other related organizations.

MinimumQualifications: (Toperform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform eachessential duty satisfactorily.)
- HighSchool Diploma/GED Required
- Experienceor coursework in the following:
- UsingArcGIS or GeoMedia Pro
- Cratingshapefiles and geo-databases
- Utilizingnative maps, secondary source maps, and historic maps for extraction andcomparison
- Mappingimagery for stereo and mono extraction at various resolutions
- Researchand information gathering.
- Mustpossess an ILR Skill Level Two certification for reading (DLPT5 2/2) in the Arabiclanguage.
- TS/SCIClearance required.

- Abilityto travel up to 10%
- Mustbe a self-starter and capable of working independently with minimal supervisionand guidance
- Mustbe able to multitask and deliver quality products within specified timelines
