Application Administrator

For more than 60 years, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has applied science and technology to make the world a safer place.

We have an opening for an experienced Application Administrator who will work independently to configure and maintain a suite of Commercial-off-the-Shelf (COTS) applications along with in-house developed software tools that manage data and information. You will coordinate and plan all application-specific upgrades, updates and serve as the liaison to both the vendor and Weapons and Complex Integration Information Technology on all issues. This position is in the Information Technology Operations (ITO) Division matrixed to the Weapons and Complex Integration (WCI) Computer Support Unit (CSU) within the Computation Directorate.

The position will be filled at the 320.1 or 320.2 level depending your qualifications. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if selected at the higher level.

Essential Duties
- Participate in testing of the interoperability of application modules including those under development by in-house software development teams, COTS software deployed in the organization and external third parties as necessary.
- Monitor software applications, document and analyze problems, publish maintenance schedules, review and author technical and end-user documentation.
- Plan and coordinate testing changes, upgrades, and new services, ensuring systems will operate correctly in current and future environments.
- Collaborate with hardware, Operating Systems (OS), Database Administrator (DBA) and technical teams to ensure proper integration of the environment.
- Deploy, test, debug, upgrade, and document advanced software applications and integration interfaces.
- Interact with users and evaluate vendor products and act as the liaison with vendor support on all issues.
- Responsible for software application related problem management activities such as issue resolution and root cause analysis.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
In Addition at the 320.2 Level
- Lead system and process analysis efforts to provide creative solutions for highly complex customer problems.
- Design and develop highly advanced technical integration solutions, working directly with the application project leads to recommend solutions and strategies for configuration and integration.
- Develop functional requirements; provide input and status for project tracking activities, conduct systems analysis, and prototype where appropriate.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in a computer science, computer engineering, or a related field, or equivalent combination of technical training and experience.
- Ability to gain knowledge and expertise in software applications and application interfaces in an efficient manner.
- Broad and in-depth knowledge on failover, high availability, disaster recovery, and business continuance.
- Extensive experience troubleshooting abilities on connectivity issues due to firewall, load balancer, proxy, and others.
- Significant experience in process automation, best practice approach, technology efficiency, and effectiveness.
- Advanced technical experience with Windows and RedHat Linux Servers.
- Advanced technical experience with SQL Query Development as it relates to Oracle and MSSQL Server databases, including experience with scripting to perform administrative tasks.
- Advanced customer service and problem-solving skills, including the ability to maintain a positive attitude under adverse situations.
In Addition at the 320.2 Level
- Highly advanced experience working independently with minimal guidance and supervision to plan and schedule workload and establish priorities.
- Extensive experience with software configuration management, issue tracking, and SQL Query Development as it relates to Oracle and MSSQL Server databases.
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills necessary to effectively collaborate in a team environment, present and explain technical information, and provide advice to management.

Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of Web Services.
- Knowledge of Apache Tomcat, Microsoft IIS, and Oracle Application Server.
- Experience with monitoring tools.

 

Pre-Employment Drug Test:  External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.  This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.

Security Clearance:  This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.

If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing.  Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.  If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.

Note:   This is a Career Indefinite position. Lab employees and external candidates may be considered for this position.
