Accountant 4, Financial Reporting Group Lead

For more than 60 years, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has applied science and technology to make the world a safer place.

We have an opening for an Accountant 4 to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.  You will be responsible for managing the financial areas of Projects Costing, Property Accounting, and all reporting General Ledgers. You will provide direction, training, and coaching to other accounting personnel in area of expertise and will serve as the primary point of contact on financial data calls with Laboratory management and DOE/NNSA. This position is in the Office of the Chief Financial Officer/General Accounting & Compliance Division.

Essential Duties
- Oversee weekly, monthly and FYE closing processes, independently respond to time urgent requests with minimal guidance and meeting critical deadlines.
- Oversee and approve highly complex financial information for DOE and LLNS.
- Oversee Oracle General Ledger configurations and standard general ledger balance sheet account, auto-accounting/subledger accounting, and related system interfaces, including the review of on balance sheet account analyses and reconciliations.
- Compile and present financial information during audits and/or provide audit representation.
- Provide leadership, direction, and training to accountants in the Finance Department to ensure services are appropriately aligned to meet customer needs and comply with the provisions of Contract 44, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), applicable regulations, policies and procedures and achievement of Contract performance objectives. 
- Provide advanced professional financial advice to LLNL program personnel, DOE/NNSA and/or other external organizations and agencies on financial matters, including systems development projects and business process improvements.
-Coordinate and resolve complex issues with customers and as a subject-matter expert, mentor accountants on LLNL financial processes, policies and procedures, and financial systems.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or related field, or the equivalent combination of related work experience.
- Extensive experience with accounting theory, policies and procedures, financial systems analysis, and financial systems and controls, along with knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Expert level experience with Oracle Financial applications or other Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) financial applications including functional experience with system implementation.
- Extensive experience applying expert analytical skills to independently research, interpret, analyze, compile and present highly complex financial data and information.
- Expert communication skills, both written and verbal to effectively prepare and deliver financial documentation and reports as well as advanced organizational skills to independently establish priorities and to execute complex business and financial assignments meeting critical time-urgent deadlines. Experience working in a fast-paced team environment,
- Advanced decision making, problem-solving and analytical skills to solve highly complex issues requiring mature judgment, discretion and tact and an ability to negotiate desirable outcomes and affect policy changes.
- Expertise using interpersonal skills to effectively explain, negotiate, persuade and build consensus among diverse stakeholders and the ability to establish effective working relationships with all levels of personnel, both internal and external to the Laboratory.
- Advanced use of computers and a thorough working knowledge of associated software applications (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio).

Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of LLNL, Department of Energy (DOE), National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), and Lawrence Livermore National Security (LLNS) financial policies and procedures.
- Experience with Oracle e-business suite.
- Knowledge and understanding of government contracts, federal budget process and financial systems analysis concepts, and Contract 44 requirements.

Pre-Employment Drug Test:  External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.  This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.

Security Clearance:  This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.

If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing.  Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.  If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.

Note:   This is a Career Indefinite position. Lab employees and external candidates may be considered for this position.
