2019 Associate Mechanical Engineer with Clearance

Job Description:

The candidate will provide support to an assigned program under supervision of a Lead Engineer. Under that supervision, the candidate would research, develop, design, analyze, test, and document mechanical components. Will maintain and improve designs of existing mechanical, electromechanical components, equipment, and systems for integration. Produce engineering documentation, reports, drawings, flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics. Responsible for conducting tests and recording data to assist with engineering evaluation or analysis. Gathering, maintaining, formatting, compiling, and manipulating technical data, such as laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes. Depending on the group assigned to, the candidate will assist in some or all of the following activities under direct supervision:

Design

  • Creation and release of piece part drawings and assemblies.
  • Utilize and develop GD&T from a design and manufacturing perspective.
  • Creation and release of work instructions.
  • Support of drawings and work instructions during integration.
  • Support of various program analyses (structural, thermal etc.), testing (structural, environmental etc.) and integration activities.
  • Software in use: MatLab, MathCAD, basic MS Office and some NX, CREO

Analysis

  • Creation and release of structural analyses to support program specific needs for structural requirements.
  • Improvement of existing designs and validation of structural test results.
  • Software in use: MatLab, MathCAD, NASTRAN/FEMAP basic MS Office and NX.
  • Creation and release of environments analyses to support program specific needs for environmental requirements.
  • Avionics thermal analyses, TPS sizing, derivation of flight environments based on empirical data and analytical methods.
  • Review of test and flight data against analyses.
  • Support of some testing.
  • Software in use: MatLab, MathCAD, NASTRAN, basic MS Office
  • Creation and release of bending modes and various coupled loads analyses.
  • Tracking and determination of component/vehicle center of gravity, product and moments of inertia.
  • Release of unclassified mass properties, support of some modal testing and weighing operations. Software in use: MathCAD, MatLab, HyperWorks, basic MS Office, NX

Testing

  • Creation and release of structural test procedures, design and analyses of structural testing components.
  • Assist in test setup with strain gages, load cells and hydraulic rams etc.
  • Participate in test conduction of flight and GSE hardware. Software in use: LabView, MathCAD, MatLab, basic MS Office
  • Creation and release of environment test procedures.
  • Assist in test setup with accelerometers, thermocouples etc.
  • Participate in test conduction of flight avionics and flight assembly's. Software in use: LabView, MathCAD, MatLab, basic MS Office
  • Review and approval of piece part and assy drawings for specification compliance.
  • Material testing and analysis.
  • Design and testing of flight avionics.
  • Comparison of test results against flight requirements and release of supporting documentation. Test support as needed. Software in use: Matlab, MathCAD, LabView, basic MS Office
  • Gather, maintain, format, compile, and manipulate technical data, such as laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes.
  • Produce engineering documentation, reports and drawings (flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics).
  • Draft detailed multiview drawings of subassemblies, including specifications for bearing loads and direction of moving parts.
  • Conduct tests and records data to assist with engineering evaluation or analysis.
  • Perform routine calculations to compute magnitude, direction and point of application of tension, compression and bending forces.
  • Modify machine design to correct operating deficiencies or to reduce production problems.
  • Measure components during production to ensure compliance with design specifications.
  • Perform related duties as assigned or required.
  • Interact with internal and external employees on the same level

Basic Qualifications:
Current Active Secret Clearance

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering

Minimum of 2 years Design experience

Preferred Qualifications:
Pro-E Creo CAD experience

Experience working in the Defense Industry

Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing experience
