BMC2 Software Engineer SME (req# 7809)

Location: Hanscom AFB (MA)

Clearance: Top Secret

PCI is actively seeking a Software Engineer SME to provide Software Engineering and program management support to the Airborne Warning and Control Systems (AWACS) program office at Hanscom AFB, MA.


The successful candidate will provide technical expertise during design, develop, integrate and test of embedded software in the Battle Management Command and Control (BMC2) subsystem. The successful candidate will analyze the design and development of contractor BMC2 subsystems and their integration into the weapon system (WS) solutions for the BMC2 Integrated Product Team (IPT). This position requires a highly technical background, including recent software development experience. It includes the review, analysis, and assessment of contractor implementations of Open Systems Architecture (OSA) and associated software services, derived requirements specifications, design documents, interface control documents, source code, and design implementation. The successful candidate will collaborate with industry stakeholders (Government and Commercial) to ensure the system passes data seamlessly throughout a multitude of datalinks and database locations. The successful candidate will provide technical advice and mentoring in the area of software and the effects of the software on LRU and integrated computer systems. The successful candidate will provide specific knowledge to address the highly integrated computer system architectures, including performance timing/sizing/speed requirements and planning, execution and assessment of subsystem and system integration efforts, to include commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) and/or new hardware and software. The successful candidate will develop recommendations for the Government regarding how well designs satisfy current requirements and business goals. The successful candidate will actively participate in team meetings to develop plans and contingencies for system implementation. The ability to effectively communicate in both written and verbal forms on highly technical topics is critical.

Required Skills:

  • IBM Rational Suite (Rhapsody, DOORS)
  • Program acquisition experience in relevant command and control DoD systems
  • C++ and Java experience (UML, Design Patterns) and certification
  • XML experience
  • Experience in unit testing and debugging
  • Experience in software architecture design
  • Experience designing, building, implementing, and testing Open Systems Architecture (OSA) systems, including:
    • Developing OSA requirements
    • Writing and implementing Interface Control Documents (ICDs)
    • Analyzing system performance against requirements
  • Experience in reviewing and writing technical documentation and reports
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills
  • Proactive and responsive team member
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • BMC2 Experience (e.g., JSTARS, AWACS, CRC, BCSF)
  • Certified Secure Software Lifecycle Professional (CSSLP)
  • Experience with version control and bug tracking (GIT, SVN, etc.)
  • Linux/Unix
  • Development and implementation of software APIs
  • Enhanced ISP tool
  • Open Mission Systems (OMS)
  • DAWIA certification (level 2 or 3 in Engineering, IT, or PM)
  • Risk Management Framework (RMF), DoD Cybersecurity requirements/implementation
  • Model-based software development and/or model-based engineering
  • Virtualization software principles and virtualization software products
  • Messaging middleware software standards and products (DDS, A-MQ, etc.)

General Responsibilities:

  • Works with assigned administrative, and matrixed acquisition support, financial management, engineering contracting, configuration and data management, and other staff.
  • Works with the Task Lead and teammates to document processes, and initiate and implement AFSO21 Rapid Improvement Events, Training Events and mentoring sessions for all task personnel.
  • Responsible for developing Integrated Master Schedule inputs, and tracking and reporting on Progress for assigned program(s).
  • Develops, reviews, and approves plans, schedules, and other technical documentation.
  • Facilitates and supports Division meetings and reviews, team building, strategic planning, and other on- and off-site activities.
  • Assists as needed in preparing and reviewing program/project documentation, e.g. Determinations and Findings, Justifications and Approvals, Requests for Proposals (RFPs), Statement Of Objectives (SOOs), Statements-of-Work (SOWs), Program Implementation Packages (PiPs), Performance Works Statements (PWS), Systems/Technical Requirements Documents (SRD/TRD), Contract Data Requirements Lists (CDRLs), Program Support Agreements (PSA), EMAs, 1067s, etc. and assist in source selections.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field (Required)
  • Master’s degree in related computer science field (Preferred)
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in software engineering or software development
  • IT Certifications are a plus.
  • Travel: Occasional CONUS/OCONUS travel may be required.
  • Top Secret clearance (depending on location); or as a minimum, the ability to obtain a clearance
